UIC Government Services and the Bowhead Family of Companies Communications Specialist (NAVAIR) in Patuxent River, Maryland

Overview

Bowhead seeks aCommunications Specialistwith experience in internal and external communications to join our team in support of theNAVAIR Command Communicationslocated at NAS Patuxent River, MD. Position is a hybrid, a mixture of work on government site and telework.

Responsibilities

  • Create and edit articles, news releases, fact sheets, how to guides, talking points, digital news pieces, message maps and other written content to stimulate internal and external interest in command accomplishments and enhance understanding of the command, its workforce, and mission

  • Create and edit informative briefing cards, crisis communication playbooks, media information reports and strategic communication guides across the command

  • Effectively build awareness and confidence in missions, visions, core values, and behaviors throughout the command

  • Conduct research to respond to organization and media queries and pass information to the workforce, federal public affairs officer, and others

  • Work as a part of a multi-disciplinary team to effectively promote and field digital knowledge, skills, transformation, and adoption

  • Help leadership communicate effectively with the organization’s nationwide workforce and general public

  • Help maintain the organization’s corporate image and identity; aligning with leadership’s focus areas

  • Draft speeches, talking points and presentations for the organization’s leadership and subject matter experts

  • Evaluate marketing programs to determine whether they are compatible with organization’s public relations efforts

Qualifications

  • BS or BA degree in communication, journalism, or a related writing-intensive field

  • 6 years of experience as a communications professional

  • Experience in creating and executing internal or external focused mass communications plans required

  • Must be able to write articles, captions and other products in Associated Press style

  • Flexible, persistent self-starter with the ability to thrive in a dynamic, fast paced environment, working multiple priorities

  • Familiarity with change management and risk/crisis communications highly desired

  • Prior experience supporting DoD or government agency preferred

  • Intermediate to advanced Microsoft Office suite skills - Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint. Office 365 a plus.

  • Strong interpersonal skills and good judgment, with the ability to work alone or as part of a team

Physical Demands:

  • Must be able to lift up to 25 pounds

  • Must be able to stand and walk for prolonged amounts of time

  • Must be able to twist, bend and squat periodically

SECURITY CLEARANCE REQUIREMENTS: Must currently hold a security clearance at the Secret level. US Citizenship is a requirement for Secret clearance at this location.
