Job Title: Research AssociateJob Description

We are seeking a Research Associate to support pneumonia studies. Your primary responsibilities will include recruiting and consenting patients, as well as processing urine samples. This role is crucial to our ongoing research on Community Acquired Pneumonia (CAP) in patients aged 65 and older. You will be working primarily at Kaiser Riverside Medical Center and Kaiser Ontario, with some flexibility required.

Hard Skills

• Recruiting and consenting experience (college or work setting)

• Experience with in-person consenting

• Willingness to learn lab protocols

• Handling and processing urine samples

• Micropipetting into containers

• Data entry into KP's Health Connect

Soft Skills

• Strong communication skills

• Attention to detail

• Flexibility and adaptability

• Ability to work independently

• Preferably bilingual (English + another language)

Job Type

This is a contract position with a duration of 6 Month(s).

Work Site

This is a hybrid position requiring some days on-site in Pasadena, California and some days remote.

Work Environment

You will receive a list every morning of patients diagnosed with CAP, primarily recruited from the emergency room or hospital (excluding ICU and patients with dementia). The role includes a mix of desk work, quality control tasks, and follow-up data entry. You will visit the lab only when collecting urine samples. Personal protective equipment (PPE) such as masks, scrubs, and gloves will be required. The workload varies seasonally, with an expected uptick in pneumonia cases from mid-October to mid-April. This is a 3-year study, currently wrapping up its first year, with two years remaining.
