Senior Test Engineer

Overview:

Candidate will be a key member of the test engineering team developing test plans. procedures, and reports of power and actuation systems and the integration of complex electromechanical systems.

Works with cross functional technical engineering team to ensure that test requirements are fully understood and implemented.

Performs qualification tests to aerospace standards and generates test reports.

This is a senior level technical position, responsible for developing concepts and solutions to complex issues, performing trade studies, and overseeing development activities through integration, design verification testing, qualification testing, and into production.

Responsibilities:

  • Integrates and tests newly developed products.

  • Plans workload for upcoming development and qualification tests.

  • Coordinates and performs test activities with the Test Engineering Manager to achieve targeted goals within budgeted use of resources.

  • Writes qualification test plans and reports and ensures they conform to requirements.

  • Works with rest of development team in specifying required test equipment, fixtures, etc..

  • Manages selected projects with the aid of the Test Engineering Manager from quotation of the job through completion of qualification and hand-off to production.

  • Guides and instructs designers in need/requirements of load and vibration fixtures.

  • Mentors test engineers and test technicians.

  • Ensures departmental cleanliness is always maintained (5S/LEAN).

  • Maintains a high level of customer satisfaction with both internal and external customers.

  • Develop and maintain working relationship with local test labs to ensure testing needs are meet.

  • Performs other duties as may be assigned.

Required Skills:

  • Seeks innovative solutions using the latest tools and technology to improve test equipment concepts, practices, and procedures within the department.

  • Performs industry standard environmental testing and equipment (MIL-STD-810, DO-160)

  • Possesses working knowledge of other Engineering disciplines

  • Exhibits an advanced understanding of industry related guidelines and uses it to shapes department policies

  • Possesses expert level problem solving and troubleshooting skills

  • Implements methods to plan, track progress and remain on schedule and proposes strategies for further efficiency

  • Anticipates problems and develops sound solutions through implementation of action plans to ensure success

  • Working knowledge of digital, analog and microprocessor circuits including firmware/assembly a plus.

  • Firm understanding of mechanical actuation and the concepts required to validate and test complex actuation systems.

Required Experience:

  • 5+ years of proven experience with test engineering (requirements development, test design, qualification testing, automation, etc.)

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering, Mathematics, Computer Science, Physical Science, or equivalent.

  • Must be a US Citizen

  • Must be able to work on U.S. government programs and/or obtain security clearance in the future

Work Environment:

  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently exposed to conditions typical of a manufacturing/machine shop environment, including, but not limited to, fluids, fumes, airborne particles, moving mechanical parts, noise, and vibration.

  • The duties of this job are conducted in both a professional office environment and a manufacturing/machine shop environment. Use of standard office equipment, such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets, and fax machines, as well as appropriate eye, hearing, and foot protection is required as necessary to perform job duties.

  • The temperature and humidity of the work environment may be affected by outside/external temperatures, machining processes, and other factors.

  • This is a full-time position, overtime could be required as job duties demand.

  • Some travel (5-20%) may be required for this position.

Physical Requirements:

  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk and hear.

  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus. Vision and color vision must pass job-required vision screening.

  • The employee is frequently required to reach with hands and arms, and to use hands to finger, handle, or feel.

  • The employee is regularly required to stand, sit, walk, stoop, or crouch, and move about the facility.

  • The employee may be required to lift and/or move items weighing up to 25 pounds.

This position is at our Parsippany, NJ office location.
