The vacancy: Manager ILS

We are looking for a an CoC Manager ILS to lead our ILS & Technical Support Engineering team dedicated to the NH90 Helicopter program.

The CoC Manager ILS holds a pivotal role in leading and managing the ILS & Technical Support Centre of Competence. This team is composed of experts in Integrated Logistics Support (ILS), Logistic Support Analysis (LSA), Technical Publications, and Technical Support. These specialists collaborate to support the global operating fleet of NH90 helicopters, focusing on maintaining the lifecycle and airworthiness of GKN Fokker components.

The CoC Manager ILS holds several key responsibilities and faces a range of challenges. These include the functional management of the department (ca. 10 direct reports of which 2-3 Functional Team Leaders and a total of 25-30 FTE’s), aiming to enhance team engagement, overseeing the offshoring processes to other GKN Aerospace entities, and effectively managing relationships with customers and stakeholders.

What you'll do

  • Manage, resource and lead functional activity and projects across all applicable engineering sites under the direction of the Director of Design Engineering Defense, in support of method development, managing knowledge, skills and capability, and creation and maintenance of process and procedures in the field of the CoC ILS. Coordinate with other functional and technology managers to determine needs and activities for the CoC ILS.

  • Provide both technical support and process guidance to Programme, Site and Project teams to ensure they work in accordance with best practice within the CoC ILS, and the GKN Aerospace business processes.

  • Create a positive workplace environment through regular meetings, engagement & coaching to support the Employee Engagement Model.

  • Maintain and develop methods, processes, and tools including awareness and implementation of industry best practices through the support of experts and other stakeholders. Where appropriate, provide oversight and approval of technical documents for functional methods and procedures.

  • Support the Engineering Functional Director/Head in the shaping of functional policy with regard to processes and ways of working within the functional domain of the CoC ILS.

  • Support and establish functional training programs and other initiatives to improve capability for permanent and temporary personnel.

  • Manage the resourcing and tasking of engineers within the CoC ILS, including the deployment of resource to participate in programs and/or provide technical support to site and programme teams.

  • Develop, monitor, and support functional business plans and budgets as required.

  • Engage in bid activities, customer discussions, requirements analysis, proposal generation, and proposal design reviews, as necessary.

  • Monitor the performance of the CoC ILS activities, including functional projects, for cost, quality, and delivery through appropriate business metrics, summary reports and KPIs.

  • Develop and support requirements and best practice for data and knowledge management including:

  • control and management of toolsets and associated practices to develop data in support of Customer requirements and

  • control and management of data.

  • Ensure functional compliance of ILS methods and procedures with airworthiness regulations and statutory requirements

  • Identify and implement Lean initiatives and to encourage a culture of Continuous Improvement within the CoC ILS and the function.

  • Perform mid and year-end appraisals and management of performance development plans of engineers reporting to the CoC Manager ILS and the greater function as required.

  • Where applicable, ensure that CoC ILS engineering facilities and laboratories are operated in a professional and safe manner in compliance with all applicable health and safety policies and procedures.

  • Support and maintain compliance with all international standards, industry, and customer accreditations required for the continued operation of the CoC ILS.

  • Provide the necessary technical management and oversight ILS activities performed by external partners/suppliers.

  • Support the pursuit of new business opportunities with external customers and support bid activity, proposal generation, and reviews as necessary in winning new projects.

What you'll bring

This role requires the highest level of interpersonal, problem solving skills as well as a high level of business expertise, especially in the aerospace (manufacturing) industry, in the field of Aerostructures and/or Landing Gear so that they are able to successfully direct the teams/projects. The Manager ILS is accountable for the competing parameters of technical quality (safety / airworthiness) as well as the project schedule and cost adherence within ILS, therefore, they should have proven experience in a Technical Leadership role.

Furthermore, the Manager ILS we are looking for has the following skills:

Essential

  • Bachelor or Master Degree in (Aerospace) Engineering or equivalent working and thinking Level gained through experience.

  • Typically 15+ years of relevant experience gained within an engineering discipline, ideally within an aerospace environment and in multi-disciplinary engineering project teams (Design/CM, EWIS, Analysis, M&P, Manufacturing/ Industrialization).

  • Strong technical background and knowledge within ILS.

  • Experience with managing (complex) engineering projects or having acted as engineering / functional team leader; has led teams (delivery through people without direct hierarchical authority).

  • Recognized as having appropriate technical seniority for Design, M&P or Analysis.

  • Experience in dealing with related functions (Program Management, Operations/Production, Sales/Customer Relationship Management, Supplier Management and Development).

  • Management of complex Projects; ability to rationalise, assess and evaluate information that may not always be clear or mature.

  • Solid approach/understanding to the delivery and tracking of engineering tasks.

  • Able to define challenging objectives and achieve them.

  • Relationship building at Levels up to and including senior management level.

  • Able to work with other functions as required to achieve CoC objectives.

  • Has excellent judgement in considering when escalation is appropriate.

  • Strong minded, convincing and committed, focussed on delivery, must be able to work under pressure and to tight deadlines.

  • Ability to clearly present data, reports and presentations to facilitate the decision making process at all levels of the business.

  • Team Leadership skills for leading teams on a hybrid/remote basis.

  • Passion & energy for continuous improvement, results driven and resilient.

  • Having worked in multi-cultural, multi-disciplinary teams in an international setting.

  • Ability to mentor and coach Engineers in the Delivery of their specific Task and supporting their professional Growth.

  • Established links with external (engineering) bodies such as Technical Institutes, Universities, ASD, SAE, RAS, EASA, or similar technical bodies.

  • Technical specialist or expert within the ILS discipline.
