Job Summary and Qualifications

POSITION SUMMARY:

The Emergency Services (ES) Transport Paramedic will operate on the Gulf Coast Hospital EMS Transport Services’ Team. The primary duty of the ES Transport Paramedic will be the safe and effective treatment and transport of Gulf Coast Hospital patients on the Gulf Coast Hospital EMS Transport Services’ ambulance. The ES Transport Paramedic will respond to EMS Call-Center requests, prioritize patient care, coordinate with other healthcare providers, and facilitate transport appropriately.

As needed, the ES Transport Paramedic will function within the free standing Gulf Coast Hospital Emergency Departments and the main Gulf Coast Hospital Emergency Department. While working in the Emergency Department, the ES Paramedic will collect and convey information to both their team members and the attending Physician regarding the health status of patients. The ES Paramedic will perform all duties identified in their job description, approved Medical Protocols, and departmental policy.

Skills will be validated by competency assessments under the License of the Gulf Coast Hospital EMS Medical Director. The ES Paramedic will report to the Chief of EMS Operations. They will serve as a member of the Healthcare team through active communication; documentation; feedback and assistance as needed or requested. The ES Transport Paramedic will attend meetings, education opportunities, and in-services as required by departmental policy, and contribute to the growth and development of their self and the Gulf Coast Hospital EMS Transport Services’ Team. The ES Paramedic will maintain good working relationships with patients, visitors, physicians, co-workers, and other hospital staff.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

• Regular, Punctual and dependable attendance

• Responds to Gulf Coast Hospital EMS Transport Services requests for the transport of patients from Gulf Coast Hospital facilities

• Provides care in the out of hospital setting, serving as the primary care provider during interfacility transports

• Assesses, plans, implements intervention, and evaluates the appropriate level of patient care according to Florida scope of practice, Gulf Coast Hospital EMS Protocols, and Gulf Coast Hospital Emergency Department policies and procedures

• Performs diverse duties within the Emergency Department involving an extensive knowledge of protocols, medical techniques, equipment, and the use of a wide range of procedures

• Maintains competence in thorough patient care documentation and use of both EMS PCR and ED software

• Performs EMS hand off reports at facility destinations and reports appropriately to nursing staff and ED physicians

• Ensures readiness of ambulance and all associated equipment for service

• Attends meetings and in-services as required by departmental policy

• Actively seeks ways to control costs without compromising patient safety, quality of care or the services delivered.

EDUCATION REQUIRED AND/OR PREFERRED:

Associates Degree in Emergency Medical Services/Paramedic or a Certificate of program completion in Emergency Medical Services (EMT/Paramedic) is required

LICENSURE/CERTIFICATION:

· Florida Paramedic license required

· BLS-American Heart Association or American Red Cross BLS provider issued card required

· ACLS-American Heart Association or American Red Cross ACLS provider card required

· PALS-American Heart Association or American Red Cross PALS provider card required

· EVOC-Emergency Vehicle Operations Course completion certificate, or equivalent required

· FEMA-100, 200, 700, 800 preferred

· ITLS-International Trauma Life Support provider card preferred

DRIVING RECORD:

This position requires driving an HCA owned vehicle. The candidate must provide a seven-year driving history from the Florida Department of Motor Vehicles and have no more than six points on their record, with no indication of unsafe driving habits.

EXPERIENCE REQUIRED OR PREFERRED:

Minimum 1 year of experience as a field paramedic with an EMS agency and/or clinical experience working in a hospital.

SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE, AND ABILITIES:

· Must have current knowledge of EMT-B, and Paramedic scope of practice.

· Must be skilled in patient triage, assessment, intervention, and evaluation practices within their scope.

· Must be capable of making clinical decisions to ensure patient safety in emergency situations with limited or no assistance.

· Knowledge and experience with pre-hospital EMS protocols is preferred.

· Exhibits a high degree of professionalism and character.

· Computer skills to include data entry, reporting and word processing.

· Typing skills sufficient to complete the job in a timely manner.

· Must be skilled in time management in order to coordinate and prioritize multiple tasks.

This role requires you to be fully vaccinated for COVID-19 based on local, state and /or federal law or regulations (unless a medical or religious exemption is approved).
