The Patient Flow/Throughput ER Coordinator ensures high quality, patient-centered care by facilitating the throughput of patients within the Emergency Department. The Patient Flow Coordinator evaluates staffing matrix and patient volume patterns to identify optimal staffing schedules and ensure efficiency of resources. The Patient Flow Coordinator supports patient safety initiatives and quality improvement activities that promote the vision, mission, and values of the organization.

What you will do in this role:

Job Summary : Registered nurse who demonstrates critical thinking skills and leadership within the department’s scope of services and patient care delivery. The ED Flow Facilitator is responsible for the overall movement of patients through the ED in a safe and efficient manner. This position will facilitate all patient care activities and be a liaison with the Nurse Manager, Assistant Nurse Manager and attending to ensure that care can be delivered in an efficient and safe manner. The ED Flow Facilitator is a role model for teamwork, leadership and professionalism in the ED. Follows policies and procedures of West Florida Hospital. Participates in the Quality Improvement process and adheres to West Florida Hospital standards of behavior.

Essential Functions :

  1. Supports the mission, goals and objectives of the ED and organization.

  2. Models a culture of outstanding customer service for employees, patients, families and physicians

  3. Responsible and accountable for facilitating nursing care and patient flow within the ED.

  4. Collaborates with the Assistant Nurse Manager regarding prioritization and patient flow.

  5. Monitors the heat map and researches arrival to greet times >45 minutes and corrects negative time stamps.

  6. Monitors room availability and turnover

  7. Assists with triaging, downloading incoming EMS patients and discharge of patients

  8. Assures that orders, collections and procedures are coordinated and completed timely

  9. Monitors tracking board for incomplete and completed diagnostic tests

  10. Notifies the physician and other providers when tests are completed and patient is ready for disposition.

Will have a medium workload - exert up to 50 lbs of force occasionally and/or up to 20 lbs frequently and/or up to 10 lbs constantly. Manages stress appropriately and can make decisions under pressure, handle multiple priorities, and work in areas that are confined and/or crowded. Works independently and manages anger/fear/hostility of others appropriately. The minimum requirements of this position require the individual to: stand, lift, stoop, bend, walk, talk, answer telephones, use computer, and follow verbal and written instructions. Attendance is essential to this role.

Education : Associate’s Degree (or Diploma) in Nursing is required, BSN preferred; FL RN license and/or approved multistate license required. Specialty nursing certification preferred.

Experience : A minimum of two (2) years as an RN in an Emergency Department is required.

Skills/Abilities : Clinical, organizational, critical thinking, multi-tasking, interpersonal, customer service, and communication skills in a detail-oriented, customer-focused organization are required. Basic computer skills are required.

Position Interactions with : Hospital administration, management, medical staff, employees, contractors, vendors, students, patients/families and visitors.
