Cabot Corporation Process R&D Engineer in Pampa, Texas
Cabot is seeking a talented engineer to join as a Process R&D Engineer in the Reinforcing Materials business segment. Our products include carbon black for rubber applications including tires and specialty products. Carbon black production is a complex combustion process with significant opportunity for innovative technology development to improve production efficiency, increase sustainability, and new product development. This role will be located in Pampa, Texas, at Cabot’s pilot-scale research facility. Ideal candidates will have strong knowledge of fundamental concepts and principles around chemical, mechanical or thermal engineering as, and will work with multidisciplinary and global teams to solve technical problems and drive implementation.
Conducts independent research to understand and deliver solutions to technical and commercial problems in equipment or process design and research investigations.
Employs thorough scientific approach, including understanding of literature, mechanistic thinking, hypothesis setting, experimentation, analysis, and reporting.
Plans, schedules, conducts, and/or coordinates detailed phases of work for a part of a major project or total project of moderate scope to safely meet objectives and timeline.
Technical support for a range of project teams performing R&D trials in Pampa, including support for process analytical measurements like gas analysis
Prepares appropriate reports and presentations documenting work, results, and conclusions, and presents work to management, technical groups and/or business partners.
Advanced knowledge and understanding in chemical or mechanical engineering. Formulation of hypotheses and ability to design appropriate and statistically sound experiments.
Eagerness to explore in pursuit of new ways to improve and create value.
Ability to synthesize and document experimental results in written reports to capture knowledge.
Technical problem solving skill: ability to identify causes of and potential solutions to technical problems. Experimental design, modeling, data management, and analysis proficiency. Skillful data interpretation, to create knowledge.
Bachelor’s degree and generally 8+ years of related experience, OR Master’s degree in related technical discipline and generally 4+ years of related experience, OR Ph.D. in related technical discipline.
Process engineering experience, preferably in the areas of combustion/gasification processes, aerosol science, particle synthesis, or post-particle treatment.
Strictly follows all safety procedures and maintains intellectual property awareness.
Ability to work effectively in teams.
Experience with project management and experimental design (statistical or via machine learning techniques) preferred.
Experience with gas analytical methods and equipment beneficial, but not required.
