Rotating - 10 Hour (United States of America)

We are leading in Abdominal Transplants program specializing in Kidney Liver and Intestine. Our team are dedicated, passionate and trained with varying skill set in comprehensive management of general trauma as well. Innovative procedures such a living related donor done 3D laparoscopy, HIPEC procedures for both GYN and general surgery. Our bariatric program is well known and robust and we just received national accreditation last month. We are recognized and are leaders in all aspects of life in a bariatric patient. We run 20 rooms across the platform with multifaceted cases that will develop your skillset, knowledge and peak your interest.

G1 – General Surgery/ Minimally Invasive Surgery and Bariatrics, General Robotics

G3- Hepatobiliary, General Trauma and Transplants

GG- Genitourinary, Gynecology and Robotics

A Brief Overview

The Surgical Technologist acts as a member of the surgical team in providing patient care to patients undergoing surgical procedures. Prepare the appropriate instrumentation and materials for use on the surgical field, passing instruments to the surgeon during the procedure, room turnover and may act as a resource or preceptor in assigned service when requested.

What you will do

  • Acts as a precept to team and provides guidance to lower level STs as needed.

  • Anticipates the needs of the surgeon by passing instruments, supplies and equipment in a timely manner.

  • Applies previous experience and knowledge when dealing with new surgical procedures.

  • Communicates in a positive, clear and concise manner to all members of the surgical team.

  • Correctly selects and utilizes sterilization methods appropriate to specific instrument, supply or equipment.

  • Demonstrates ability to provide appropriate care based on the needs of the individual taking into consideration age, culture, and developmental issues.

  • Handles specimens and medications using correct technique and according to departmental policy and procedure.

  • Maintains sterile technique as well as sterile instruments, supplies and equipment.

  • Monitors and communicates to surgical team members breaks in technique and unsafe patient situations.

  • Performs the necessary surgical counts on sharps, small items, instruments and sponges with the circulating nurse prior to opening, during, and after closing the incision.

  • Prepares the surgical field by opening correct supplies and preparing instruments and equipment needed for the scheduled case. Assures all materials are available and in working order and verifies own skill in using equipment correctly.

  • Utilize knowledge of normal/abnormal anatomy and physiology, anticipates and responds to needs of surgeons by requesting instruments/supplies based on procedure and case progress.

Education Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or GED High school diploma or GED equivalent and completion of an accredited program or formal structure surgical program, (e.g. military services)

Experience Qualifications

  • Six (6) months of progressively responsible and directly related work experience

Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Ability to apply judgment and make informed decisions

  • Ability to foster effective working relationships and build consensus

  • Ability to solve problems and identify solutions

  • Ability to speak and write effectively at a level appropriate for the job

  • Knowledge and theoretical understanding of normal/abnormal anatomy and physiology

  • Knowledge and understanding of surgical procedures to anticipate needs/request from surgeon

  • Knowledge of computer systems and software used in functional area

  • Knowledge of general safety procedures e.g., patient precautionary care during surgery

Licenses and Certifications

  • BLS - Basic Life Support

Base Pay Scale: Generally starting at $52.62 - $59.26 per hour

The salary of the finalist selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to, internal equity, experience, education, specialty and training. This pay scale is not a promise of a particular wage.
