This individual will provide project management expertise in developing and maintaining the standards, templates, and processes for managing product development projects and corporate projects at Jazz Pharmaceuticals. The individual will work closely with the Project Management staff and key stakeholders to develop and implement required process and tools to build Jazz’s project and program management capabilities, standardizing project team operations and expectations. The individual will maintain, refine, and provide assistance to teams regarding the R&D governance processes, templates, guidance, and expectations. The individual will also maintain best practices and lessons learned for drug development processes, governance processes, and teams. As needed, the individual will also provide project management leadership to support non-product, corporate projects as dictated by business needs.

Essential Functions

  • Develop and maintain project management tools for managing drug development projects, with consultation with project management staff and leadership.

  • Document, maintain, and improve the processes for drug development at Jazz, in collaboration with project management staff and drug development teams.

  • Provide guidance to teams on the use of tools and processes as required.

  • Maintain best practices and lessons learned from project teams.

  • Maintain and improve R&D governance guidance documentation, presentation templates, best practices, and expectation documents for teams presenting to the governance committees.

  • Provide project management leadership on non-product projects, under the direction of project management staff, as needed.

  • Participate in implementing improvements to project management processes, tools and infrastructure to ensure ongoing efficiency across the R&D organization and company wide

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Approximately 5 years of experience independently managing or leading cross-functional project teams in life sciences or related disciple and/or supporting project teams in a project management office. Must have demonstrable experience managing cross-functional teams.

  • Proven track record of success in Project Management including creating and actively managing integrated timelines and budgets

  • Thorough understanding of project management principles and application to cross-functional teams

  • Familiarity with the drug development process. Experience managing cross-functional teams in drug development is a plus.

  • Ability to perform in a fast-paced environment with competing priorities under tight deadlines

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills

  • Proficient with Microsoft Office (e.g. Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Outlook, Project); Proficiency with MS Visio a plus

  • Experience with Planisware a plus

Required/Preferred Education and Licenses

  • B.S. in a life science / pharmaceutical R&D/ engineering, or related technical field; Advanced degree (MS / PhD / Pharm D / MBA) is a plus

  • Project Management Professional (PMP) certification is a plus

Description of Physical Demands

  • Occasional mobility within office environment.

  • Routinely sitting for extended periods of time.

  • Constantly operating a computer, printer, telephone and other similar office machinery.

Description of Work Environment

  • Work indoors in normal office environment with little exposure to excessive noise, dust, fumes, vibrations and temperature changes.

  • Frequent computer use at workstation.

  • May move from one work location to another occasionally.

  • Responsibilities may require a work schedule that may include working outside of “normal” work hours, in order to meet business demands.

  • Occasional public contact requiring appropriate business apparel.
