Maxar is currently seeking a Propulsion Manufacturing Engineer, located in Palo Alto, CA, to provide support on the most powerful multi-mission spacecraft in the world! You will support the building and testing of these spacecraft with a highly skilled manufacturing team. Additionally, you will provide manufacturing engineering direction to plan and coordinate propulsion system builds, ensuring production of the highest quality chemical and electric propulsion systems.
As a propulsion manufacturing engineer you will act as the liaison between engineering and manufacturing floor to help coordinate and direct spacecraft builds. You will perform engineering analysis to reduce downtime on the production floor. You will also provide DFx support for the propulsion subsystem by develop process improvements and cost reduction initiatives to effectively utilize equipment and materials while maintaining high quality standards. This position will directly impact the next phase of human space exploration and will require your dedicated commitment and detailed attention towards safe and reliable spacecraft production as we go to the moon and beyond!
Plan and coordinate production engineering processes on daily basis to produce high quality products.
Translate engineering intent, drawings, and configurations into fully functional hardware
Develop manufacturing work instructions to clearly define propulsion component integration and test
Define how to prepare hardware for test, integration, and flight
Perform engineering drawing review and provide final approval for manufacturing
Produce manufacturing shop orders to direct the detailed assembly sequence from subsystem to system level
Define and support repair and rework activities
Design, procure, install, and integrate custom manufacturing equipment, tools and tooling
Perform root cause analyses when non-conformances and escapes are identified and deploy corrective actions
Evaluate current manufacturing activities and make recommendations for improvements.
Stay current with product specifications, engineering technology and production processes.
Develop best practices to improve manufacturing capacity, quality and reliability.
Requires a Bachelor's degree in Mechanical, Manufacturing, or Aerospace Engineering or other related fields
Requires coursework, labs, and/or direct experience with the design, manufacturing, and test of spacecraft propulsion systems
Strong engineering fundamentals for mechanical design and manufacturing
Experience in hardware manufacturing and product assembly
Strong aptitude for mechanical system design and hands-on fabrication experience
Spacecraft fueling operations (Chemical or Electrical)
Strong written, personal, technical, and software skills (CAD, Scheduling, Issue Tracking, Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook, etc)
Ability to communicate clearly and appropriately at all levels of the organization including customers and prospective customers
Aerospace/Launch vehicle experience
Experience with safety critical systems
