The Lead REI/ART Lab Technician ensures REI Laboratory services effectively and efficiently meets the department’s goals while maintaining quality standards and providing analytical services in a safe and cost effective manner. Oversees the day-to-day professional practice responsibilities for the REI Laboratory, as well as establishing staff schedules, facilitate balance in work flow, and provides guidance to other Laboratory Staff on standard methodologies, best practices, and guidelines.

Must perform all duties and responsibilities in accordance with the hospital’s policies and procedures, including its Service Standards and its Code of Conduct.

  • Plans the work of others; assigns and distributes work to others; reviews and checks the work of others; approves the work of others; provides input into Directors’ actions, including feedback to supervisor on employee performance; orients and trains employees; may establish or recommend work unit policies and procedures.

  • Coordinates daily functions for smooth operation of the REI Lab with regards to technical advice, workflow, and resolving technical issues. Assists in service recovery and triages clinical urgency, as appropriate.

  • Prepares maintains appropriate work schedules for REI lab staff. Coordinates with Lab Supervisor for lab coverage and smooth daily operation of the REI Lab in our 7 day a week program.

  • Assists Lab Supervisor maintain lab licensures. Prepare technical submissions for lab licensure such as proficiency testing.

  • Tests lab semen samples and runs hormones for REI Lab and for outside Clinics.

  • Coordinating maintenance of equipment (semi/annual preventative maintenance). Coordinating Assay validations.

  • Coordination of outside vendors for maintaining instruments, researching reagents/products needed for lab use. Working with clinic staff daily to keep communication open on the daily progress of lab tests.

  • Performs procedures, such as Phlebotomy, sample processing for testing and shipping, sample processing for FDA and genetic testing, preparation of sperm for IUI, SA and Cryo.

  • Maintaining lab supplies are adequate and ordering more if needed.

  • Preparing medical records for filing and long term storage.

  • Works closely with Lab Supervisor to accomplish department and lab goals. Takes lead on issues as delegated by lab supervisor. Takes lead on issues for discussion and implementation.

  • Coordinate daily functions for smooth operation of the REI Lab with regards to technical advice, workflow, resolving technical issues.

    Minimum Qualifications

    Any combination of education and experience that would likely provide the required knowledge, skills and abilities as well as possession of any required licenses or certifications is qualifying.

    Education: High School Diploma or GED equivalent

    Experience: Four (4) years of progressively responsible and directly related work experience

    License/Certification: Certified Phlebotomist (CPT)

    Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities

    These are the observable and measurable attributes and skills required to perform successfully the essential functions of the job and are generally demonstrated through qualifying experience, education, or licensure/certification.

  • Knowledge of instruments, methods, and materials used in a hospital laboratory.

  • Knowledge of basic laboratory testing procedures, laboratory precautions, regulatory compliance, and use and care of laboratory equipment in assigned area

  • Knowledge of lab principles and requirements for testing/storing biological specimens

  • Knowledge of SART, CLIAA and FDA guidelines for sample storage and use.

  • Knowledge of Epic and BabySentry.

  • Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing. Ability to adjust communications to fit the needs and level of understanding of the receiver. Ability to follow written and oral instructions.

  • Ability to perform blood collection procedures using skin (micro) puncture and venipuncture.

  • Ability to organize, prioritize, multi-task, and adapt to changing priorities.

  • Ability to establish good working relationships with a variety of professional, technical and nontechnical staff.

  • Ability to process sperm samples according to SOPs in a fast paced environment.

  • Ability to work in a fast paced environment.

  • Ability to work independently and prioritize duties.

  • Ability to provide feedback to employees in regard to problem solving and lab operations.

  • Skilled at working with chemistry instrumentation, specifically the Roche hormone analyzer.

Pay Range

Compensation is based on the level and requirements of the role.

Salary within our ranges may also be determined by your education, experience, knowledge, skills, location, and abilities, as required by the role, as well as internal equity and alignment with market data.

Typically, new team members join at the minimum to mid salary range.

Minimum to Midpoint Range (1.0 FTE): $91,145.60 to $103,344.80
