The Opportunity

This is the world of the City of Palo Alto's Junior Museum & Zoo. We're seeking a visionary Exhibits Director to design transformative experiences for our young visitors. As our Exhibits Director (Arts, Sciences and Theatre Specialist), you'll create captivating interactive exhibits that transform scientific concepts into engaging discoveries for children.

About the Junior Museum and Zoo

Since 1934, the City of Palo Alto's Junior Museum & Zoo has been at the forefront of hands-on science education. As one of the pioneering interactive children's museums west of the Mississippi, we've inspired generations of young learners, fostering a love for science and nature. Our impact extends far beyond our walls, reaching approximately 184,000 children and adults annually through our Museum & Zoo and innovative outreach programs.

Key Responsibilities

As our Exhibits Director, you'll:

  • Design thought-provoking interactive exhibits that make complex scientific concepts accessible and exciting for children aged 0-7 years

  • Lead and mentor a team of exhibit specialists and custodians to keep our all of our interactive exhibits clean and in good working order

Who We're Looking For

We're seeking a passionate innovator who brings:

  • A Bachelor's degree in Arts, Humanities, Theater, Sciences, or a related field (Master's degree preferred)

  • A minimum of three years of experience in exhibit design, or related fields

  • A deep understanding of translating complex ideas into age-appropriate, interactive experiences

  • Flexibility to adapt to our dynamic, evolving environment

  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to engage diverse audiences from young children to community leaders

  • Strong leadership abilities to inspire and guide team members in achieving our educational goals

Minimum Qualifications:

Sufficient education, training and/or work experience to demonstrate possession of the following knowledge, skills, and abilities which would typically be acquired through:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Arts/Humanities/Theater/Sciences or equivalent. Master's Degree desirable.

and

  • Three years of experience related to the position.
