A Brief Overview

Process and section surgical specimens for examination under light and electron microscope. Examine

independently or with minimal supervision cellular ultrastructure for diagnostic and research purposes with

photographic and/or digital imaging documentation. Prepare frozen sections of surgical specimens, evaluate

for adequacy and stain with fluorescent antibodies for diagnostic and research purposes. Attend in-house

renal biopsy procedures to divide and fix tissue for various studies. Assist residents, fellows, and faculty in

research projects requiring electron microscopy and immunofluorescent studies.

What you will do

  • Cut both "thick and thin sections" of epoxy-embedded tissue

  • Cut frozen sections using a cryostat

  • Independently examine tissues in the electron microscope

  • Prepare laboratory solutions, i.e. buffers, stains, fixatives, etc.

  • Process and embed specimens for electron microscopy

  • Produce photomicrographs or digital images of tissue ultrastructure using darkroom processing and computer imaging programs

  • Stain frozen sections with fluorescent antibodies

Education Qualifications

  • Associate's degree in a work-related field/discipline from an accredited college or university

  • Ability operate and maintain medical equipment and apparatuses

  • Ability to analyze data, draw conclusions and interpret results

  • Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing

  • Ability to follow written and oral instructions

Base Pay Scale: Generally starting at $52.62 - $59.26 per hour

The salary of the finalist selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to, internal equity, experience, education, specialty and training. This pay scale is not a promise of a particular wage.
