Provides leadership to Sterile Processing, Anesthesia Technicians, and Operating Room Assistant teams and assists all providers and ancillary departments as a central point of contact. The director is accountable for enhancing the organization¿s capacity to perform through strategic leadership, change management, quality management, relationship management, information knowledge management, resource management, and personal/professional development objectives. Collaborates with perioperative leadership, physician leaders, and stakeholders across the organization to provide equipment, transport, and 24/7 OR support. Works proactively with the operating room management team and stakeholders to deliver direction from the top down and coordinate needed operational planning activities for the overall benefit of the organization. Develops and manages the department capital and operating budgets. Develops, plans, and implements strategies to ensure cost control and revenue enhancements. The Director is responsible for the development and attainment of the service mission, short- and long-term goals, operational goals and objectives identified for the service and departments. Responsible for the development and implementation of department policies and procedures.

  • Provides leadership and oversight of the OR Support Services management team and enables growth, self-direction, strong leadership skills and team building to manage 24/7 operations in partnership with surrounding departments.

  • Supports/leads daily management activities and process improvement work, ensuring front line involvement. Assists the Vice President and collaborates with surgical leadership in performing the short-term and long-term strategic and operational goals to drive efficiency in turnover times.

  • Develops and implements policies and procedures that guide and support the provision of services which meet the external regulatory and statutory requirements; ensures that policies and procedures are compatible with the function and goals of the hospital and clinics.

  • Directs all administrative, fiscal, human, technical and clerical services for the OR Support Services areas; determines the number of qualified staff needed to provide adequate resources for the delivery of these services; provides resources, both financial and staff, to build new opportunities for business expansion; determines resources required (facilities, equipment and supplies) for the effective department operation.

  • Prepares annual operating and capital equipment budgets; monitors monthly budget reports, explains any operational variances as needed in accordance to the flex budget standards.

  • Reviews department operations for cost and efficiency improvements, implements as appropriate.

  • Plans, organizes, manages, directs and delegates authority / responsibility to meet the day-to-day operational activities of the OR support service areas and programs. Assists the VP in determining policy, program priorities, and the utilization of resources to fulfill established institutional objectives and the delivery of optimal health care services.

  • Directs all activities related to vendors/equipment/instrument decontamination, processing and sterilization to meet the needs of all customers and ensures all processes are compliant with applicable standards and regulations. Works with VP and Executive director of Surgical Services on prioritizing operating and capital budget requests for services.

  • Responsible for management and oversight of supplies, equipment, trays, and support services for all operations and functions in the Treatment Center rooms providing patient care. This role will directly work alongside the other directors with other supporting scopes and roles to coordinate cost-effective, safe, and quality care. Will directly be accountable to the non-labor and labor management of processes, and constantly partner to improve on metrics, policies, and structure to handle growth and new programs.

  • Oversees the provision of quality, cost-effective Sterile Processing and Anesthesia support services following standards of practice and SHS policies and procedures. Responsible for ensuring Anesthesia Techs, Sterile Processing, and Operating Room Assistants adhere to all Lucile Packard Children¿s Healthcare guidelines, policies, procedures, and collective bargaining agreements.

  • Provides ongoing leadership, coaching, and mentoring to staff, including timely performance evaluations, employee engagement activities, disciplinary action, and hiring/termination requirements. Coaches and monitors the performance of Sterile Processing and Anesthesia Technician Managers and implements corrective action if needed. Recommends hires, merit pay increases, and promotions. Mentors Anesthesia and Sterile Processing Managers to coach, orient, and provide feedback to departmental personnel correctly.

  • Collaborates with Operating Room, Anesthesia, and Sterile Processing management to ensure a structure for all support services accurately reinforces the Perioperative Region, Ancillary areas, and Off-Site Clinics. Approves implementation of said model for safety, efficiency, and cost-effectiveness.

  • Collaborates with the Anesthesia and Sterile Processing Managers department to construct a plan to develop and recommend annual budgets. Overseeing expenditures, completing variance reports, and implementing corrective action to resolve budget variances.

  • Develops a strategy for budget priorities for three areas: Sterile Processing, Anesthesia Technicians, and Operating Room Assistants. Approves resource allocations and staffing models. Holds Technicians and Operating Room Assistant leaders accountable for managing perspective budgets. Work with leaders within the organization to innovatively address and resolve budget issues.

  • Oversees, collaborates, and supports item recall processes.

  • Creates opportunities to improve service levels and processes to achieve high customer satisfaction by collaborating with Sterile Processing and Anesthesia Technician Managers.

  • Guides Sterile Processing, Anesthesia Technician, and Operating Room Assistant leadership to develop action plans for implementation and alignment with organizational goals. Monitors progress to goal completion.

  • Prioritizes and directs strategic goals that align with the organizational objectives. Achieve alignment of operating support services communicating intent and aim.

  • Identifies hospital operations¿ strengths and weaknesses and act on opportunities for improvement in patient care/quality, Technician and Operating Room Assistant satisfaction, and overall operational efficiency.

    Minimum Qualifications

    Any combination of education and experience that would likely provide the required knowledge, skills and abilities as well as possession of any required licenses or certifications is qualifying.

    Education: Bachelors degree in a work-related field/discipline from an accredited college or university.

    Experience: Seven (7) years of progressively responsible and directly related work experience.

  • Ability to communicate effectively at all organizational levels and in situations requiring instructing, persuading, negotiating, conflict resolution, consulting, advising, and preparing clear, comprehensive written and oral reports and materials.

  • Managing complex projects and resources (people, costs, and time) across multiple departments.

  • Understanding other functional organizations' needs, goals, deliverables, and interdependencies.

  • Knowledge of Instrument Assembly/Case Cart and Supply Processing.

  • Knowledge of new technologies (in specific fields) and maintaining and staying abreast of updates and changes.

  • Knowledge of standard procedures and methods used to decontaminate, clean, inspect, assemble, package, sterilize, store, and distribute items and instrumentation within applicable Federal, State, and other regulatory agencies.

  • Demonstrated familiarity, knowledge, and understanding of computers and software applications (Word, Excel, Outlook).

Pay Range

Compensation is based on the level and requirements of the role.

Salary within our ranges may also be determined by your education, experience, knowledge, skills, location, and abilities, as required by the role, as well as internal equity and alignment with market data.

Typically, new team members join at the minimum to mid salary range.

Minimum to Midpoint Range (1.0 FTE): $115,585.60 to $153,254.40
