Amazon Applied Scientist in Palo Alto, California

Description

Amazon’s product search engine is one of the most heavily used services in the world, indexes billions of products, and serves hundreds of millions of customers world-wide. We are working on an AI-first initiative to further improve the way we do search using large-scale foundation models. These foundation models are also used in downstream applications by various partner teams in Amazon Stores. Our goal is to build large language models (LLMs), which can empower conversational applications and facilitate online shopping. The candidate is expected to develop machine learning (ML) techniques for LLM Alignment and Personalization. This is a rare opportunity to develop cutting edge AI/ML technologies in these areas and apply them to problems of this magnitude.

Palo Alto, CA, USA

Basic Qualifications

  • PhD in engineering, technology, computer science, machine learning, robotics, operations research, statistics, mathematics or equivalent quantitative field

  • 3+ years of applied research experience

  • Experience with neural deep learning methods and machine learning

  • Experience programming in Java, C++, Python or related language

  • Knowledge and expertise in Deep Reinforcement Learning (RL) and RL foundations.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with RL and dialogue management systems and background in personalization and recommendation systems are desirable.

  • Good background in mathematics and statistics is always a plus.

Our compensation reflects the cost of labor across several US geographic markets. The base pay for this position ranges from $136,000/year in our lowest geographic market up to $260,000/year in our highest geographic market. Pay is based on a number of factors including market location and may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Amazon is a total compensation company. Dependent on the position offered, equity, sign-on payments, and other forms of compensation may be provided as part of a total compensation package, in addition to a full range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits.
