Job Description

Reports directly to the Team Manager, this person is primarily responsible for supplying the departments assets with material needed to process orders.  This includes the movement of material throughout the site. This job is posted for D Team (7am - 7pm), on a 2-2-3 schedule.

This posting is for the Fairport Finishing department and is subject to shift alignment. All interested individuals are encouraged to apply, with those currently in the Fairport Finishing department receiving first consideration.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES AND ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Pull bulk rolls for finishing assets - practice FIFO - bring oldest material to the machines

  • Bring pallets to Finishing area

  • Bring in pallets from outside, if it is raining or snowing bring in extra and stage by the entrance to dry

  • Consolidate materials: move small rolls to Vpans, put pallets/racks into open racking, work with coating lines to consolidate Renolit racks. Etc.

  • Break down and store metal and plastic Bulk Racks

  • Stretch wrap pallets of product coming from finishing

  • Load finished goods onto trucks for DC as needed

  • Unload trailers as required

  • Pull QA's MPI sample list and return when finished 

  • Pull edited rolls from the editor (Finishing pick up rolls from Editor and put them away, Coating Drop off rolls to be run to the editor)

  • Remove Scrap from Finishing- Replace Gaylord and scrap racks

  • Pick up and transfer material racks, pallets, and other consumable supplies to/from production areas as required.

  • Bring empty racks to DUSE as needed for specific orders (Modagrfix, Liner / face jobs) Remove racks and Pallets of finished a Goods from DUSE when finished as needed

  • Replenish cores at MU2 when asked by the operator

  • Remove scrap and broken pallets from Finishing floor (and anywhere else they find them). Stack them properly and load them onto scrap truck

  • If RCRA Certified- be available to unload and put away Totes if no other DOT Cert. drivers are available

  • Operate floor scrubbing machine and clean floor in finishing department at least

  • Keep all fire doors, exits clear. Keep material from being stored in front of Electrical panels or on walkways.-Generally move things that are out of place.

  • Perform complete and accurate inventory transactions to document the movement of material within the Inventory Management System.

  • Consolidate 15,000 racks

  • Maintain good housekeeping throughout the site

  • Support all 5S housekeeping activities.

  • Perform other duties as assigned by supervisor.

GENERAL OPERATIONS RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Health & Safety:  Consistently work in a safe manner with regard to self, co-workers, and manufacturing systems.  Engage and inspire team members to make safety personal.  Perform general housekeeping tasks and waste removal within department/group and assist other areas as required.

  • ELS:  Review daily work process seeking opportunities to improve product/process quality and reduce waste, rework, and unnecessary work that adds no value to the work or process and provides observations/input to manager. Supports safety, quality, and continuous improvement initiatives.

  • Teamwork:  Assists and supports other team members in meeting department and site goals. Participates and shares in performing all tasks necessary to meet the demands of the site.  Contributes and participates in team decision-making.  Provides support in project work and other special requests.

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or equivalent (GED) or 3+ years of relevant manufacturing work experience

  • Must regard safety as a core value; must serve as a role model for other employees and encourage adherence to safety practices, policies and procedures.

  • Trained forklift operator

  • Basic Computer skills

  • MES/Oracle experience - able to learn how to ship and recieve

  • Must be able to follow written and oral instruction.

  • Strong communication skills and the ability to build relationships with all functions and levels of the organization.

  • Ability to take ownership to resolve issues.

  • Flexibility and willingness to accept and potentially initiate change.

  • Ability to work well with all levels of management and employees.

  • Willingness to work overtime as required

  • RCRA trained or able to be RCRA trained

  • Must be able and willing to work overtime, including short-notice requests.

  • Must have a demonstrated record of flexibility and dependability in order to support production and customer focus.

  • Must demonstrate proficiency in essential tasks of the job and a willingness to learn and share knowledge; must take initiative to cross-train and sustain acquired skills.  Must have strong service and quality focus; address issues effectively when problems arise and take initiative to understand root cause, then communicate / educate team in a timely manner.

  • Must be able to actively contribute in a team based environment; encourage open communication and positive interaction with peers and management to effectively reach a common goal.

PREFERRED REQUIREMENTS:

  • 3 to 5 years previous material handling experience

  • Solid interpersonal skills, mathematical aptitude, mechanical/technical aptitude and logical problem solving skills

  • RCRA certification
