Aerospace Coatings International Engineering Intern in Oxford, Alabama
Primary Function: The Engineering Intern will support the engineering staff in repair development activities. This role can accommodate a full or part time schedule in order to work around school demands.
Major Duties and Responsibilities: 1. Review major repair data and supporting documents for relevant changes that could affect flight safety. This includes searching the faa.gov website for airworthiness directives or service difficulty reports, reviewing specifications for changes that could affect the major repair or substantiating data, and reviewing warranty claims and nonconformance reports for production issues. 2. Review and update as necessary the repair manager database.a 3. Use various measuring tools and gages to reverse engineer parts. 4. Use XRF Gun and hardness tester to determine alloy and hardness of various metals. 5. Create drawings and figures for repair instructions. 6. Substantiate and document equivalencies for tools, equipment, materials, and processes to support repair activities. 7. Exemplify the Wencor Core Values. 8. Promote a culture of product and aviation safety throughout the organization. 9. Promote the use of the process approach and risk-based thinking within the engineering department and throughout the organization. 10. Promote improvement within the engineering department and throughout the organization. 11. Support other relevant roles to demonstrate their leadership as it applies to their areas of responsibility. 12. Ensure that customer and regulatory requirements are determined, understood, and met 13. All other duties as specified by the company.
Physical Requirements: 1. Ability to walk thru shop at any given time. 2. Substantial keyboarding throughout the day.
Skills, Knowledge and Experience: 1. This position requires a high school diploma or GED and concurrent enrollment in university courses in an engineering or science discipline. Preferred courses of study include mechanical engineering, aerospace engineering, materials engineering, or materials science. 2. Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite particularly Word and Excel. 3. Proficiency in reading, interpreting, as well as generating technical drawings. 4. Must possess clear written and oral technical communication skills to all levels of the organization and other stakeholders. 5. Be able to work as a team member and possess good inter-personal skills. 6. Must have the ability to think logically to determine correct application of inspection methods and techniques. 7. Understanding of Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerance (GDandT) standards per ASME Y14.5 8. Computer aided design experience: SolidWorks preferred. 9. Professional demeanor and work habits 10. Good written and oral communication skills 11. Computer skills using Windows and MS Office Suite 12. Excellent attention to detail 13. Ability to apply inspection related mathematical concepts such as basic trigonometry, and quality statistics
