Google Senior Mechanical Engineer, Data Center in Oslo, Norway

Minimum qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent practical experience

  • Experience in Mechanical Engineering

  • Experience in Mechanical Testing/Quality Assurance

  • Experience in health, safety, and environmental protection practices and procedures as they apply to common construction processes

Preferred qualifications:

  • Experience managing large-scale construction projects within an international working environment

  • Experience with data center equipment/environments, electrical switchgear, generators, chillers, cooling towers, air handling units, controls, security monitoring systems and fire safety systems, with an understanding of start up/commissioning processes

  • Experience managing vendor relationships and an understanding of standard practices in design and construction

  • Knowledge of large-scale facility mechanical systems

  • Effective skills in requirement gathering, resource organization, task prioritization, scheduling, problem-solving, and achieving goals

  • Ability to travel up to 25% as needed

Our computational challenges are so big and unique we can't just buy our hardware, we've got to make it ourselves. Our Platforms Team designs and builds the hardware, software and networking technologies that power all of Google's services. As a Mechanical Engineer you design and evaluate our data center systems, identifying product requirements and contributing to research and project planning. From the chip to chiller, you are responsible for designing and optimizing an architecture that will scale with Google's continued growth.

With your technical expertise, you lead and manage projects, develop product and process improvements, provide consultation to others and help facilitate training and development.

The Data Center Delivery and Engineering team is a collection of Civil, Structural, Architectural, Mechanical, Electrical, Plumbing design experts, mechanical engineers, electrical engineers, construction project managers, water/air experts, data center services managers and project controls managers who schedule, design, and construct the most efficient data centers in the world at a fast-paced, sustainable, and scalable manner.

  • Drive project mechanical outcomes of high complexity and scope as a key contributor, integrating feedback from multiple stakeholders.

  • Provide mechanical technical leadership, resolving critical field issues, contribute to project mechanical scoping and direction, manage project mechanical priorities, and allocate technical resources. Participate in the selection and onboarding of new vendors.

  • Provide technical leadership to the projects, support and optimize project design, scope, schedule, quality, commissioning, and safety for mechanical discipline. Provide feedback/improvements to the central partner teams.

  • Contribute to the Quality and Commissioning Plans for the mechanical discipline, and support mechanical Factory Acceptance Tests (FAT) and all off/on site commissioning. Support the Health, Safety and Environment Plan, and design and construct compliance.

  • Support interactions with the authorities, solutioning on Inspection deficiencies, third-party inspections, advance statements/instructions from authorities’ correction requests.
