Job Description

Takeda’s Computational Analysis and Academic Initiatives team is looking for talented and highly motivated candidates for pursuing a 3-year PhD research program, in which the student will use bioinformatics tools to evaluate genomic and epigenomic data.

Epigenetics is valuable tool for the study of stable phenotypic changes in non-altered DNA sequences, which is driven, among others, by DNA methylation and histone modification. The study of these modifications in mammalian cells used for recombinant production can shed some light on the regulatory mechanisms to increase productivity.

Objectives:

The candidate will perform hands-on sequencing and epigenetics experiments and use computational tools to improve understanding of mammalian host cells on genomic level. In addition, epigenetics patterns of selected mammalian cells cell lines will be characterized.

In particular, the student will work on, but not limited to:

  • Generation of different sequencing and epigenetics data in wet-lab

  • Identification of genomics regions of interest in whole genome sequencing of mammalian cell lines

  • Characterization of mammalian epigenetics patterns

  • Identification of potential epigenetic shifts during growth and production phase

  • Publication of at least two papers on selected topics in peer-reviewed journals and/or conferences

  • Collaboration with internal and cross-functional expert teams and academic researchers

Our Requirements:

  • Master’s degree in Bioinformatics, Chemistry or related disciplines with excellent mathematical skills

  • Hands-on experience in NGS and/or third generation sequencing data generation and analysis, preferred

  • Strong curiosity on exploring data, genomics analysis and visualization

  • Ability to clearly communicate ideas and knowledge

  • Ability to work in an interdisciplinary team and pursue goals in a focused way

  • Solid skills in R and Python are a must

  • Excellent command of German and English
