General Summary

Astronics Test Systems is seeking an exceptional Electrical Engineering Manager with a robust background in new product development and mastery in mixed signal and RF circuit design. This leader will helm our Electrical Engineering Design team, steering the creation of cutting-edge test systems and solutions for customers who demand precision and reliability in mission-critical equipment. Principal Duties and Responsibilities

  • Team Leadership: Manage and inspire a team of engineers through the complete lifecycle of product development, from requirement capture and design to validation, testing, documentation, and manufacturing transition.

  • Project Management: Lead product development teams to meticulously plan and execute electrical PCB designs, ensuring timely delivery that meets project requirements and deadlines.

  • Technical Oversight: Oversee and continuously improve schematic capture and PCB layout processes.

  • Validation & Verification: Define and document methodologies for characterization and calibration, lead the validation and verification (V&V) process.

  • Customer Interaction: Collaborate with sales and various business units to sustain existing systems, adapt to new customer requirements, and manage product obsolescence.

  • Subject Matter Expertise: Provide expert guidance in analog, RF, and high-speed digital design, integration, and performance verification.

  • Mentorship: Mentor and develop Electrical Engineers within the team, fostering an environment of continuous learning and innovation.

Job Specifications

Education: Bachelor’s in Electrical/Electronics Engineering (BSEE) required; Master’s Degree (MSEE/MBA/MEM) preferred.

Experience:

  • 10+ years of electrical design experience.

  • 5+ years in engineering management or project lead roles.

Technical Proficiency:

  • Expertise in modern software-defined architectures and synthetic instrumentation designs.

  • Experience with modular form factors such as COMe, PCIe, VXI, PXI, and PXIe.

  • Extensive knowledge of high-speed bus interfaces (USB 3.x, DDRx, PCIe Gen 2/3, Gigabit Ethernet, JESD 204B, FPGA SERDES).

  • High competency in hardware design and embedded firmware languages (VHDL/Verilog, Embedded C/C++); proficiency in high-level programming or scripting languages such as C3 and Python is advantageous.

  • Expertise in PCB stack-up definition, trade-off analysis, and manufacturability.

  • Proficient in simulation tools (LTSpice, HyperLynx, etc.).

  • Experienced in design documentation, test procedures, and meeting EMC requirements.

Skills:

  • Strong analytical reasoning, problem-solving, and root cause analysis.

  • Exceptional communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills.

  • Ability to lead and inspire a team.

Computer Skills:

  • Proficient with Altium Designer for schematic capture and layout.

  • Experienced with simulation tools such as LTSpice, HyperLynx, ADIsimCLK, etc.

  • Skilled in software and firmware development languages such as C, C++, C#, VHDL/Verilog, MATLAB, and LabVIEW.

  • Proficient in Microsoft Office suite.
