JOB SUMMARY
Salary Range: $41,142/yr - $63,169/yr rate of pay may vary based on factors including, but not limited to, education, training, and/or experience.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS & ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
At least 18 years of age.
Must be able to comprehend and communicate fluently in verbal and written English.
U.S. Citizen or possess a current permanent resident card.
Clean criminal history; any arrest history will be individually evaluated.
No illegal drug usage within the past year. Other drug usage will be evaluated on a case by case basis.
High school diploma or general education degree (GED) AND two (2) years of related experience AND/OR the equivalent combination of education/training. Related experience to include the following: customer service, records management/maintenance, criminal justice, social services, etc.
Must be able to obtain Public Notary, Certification FCIC/NCIC, D.A.V.I.D/CJNet certifications within six (6) months of employment.
Must have valid Florida driver’s license.
Must attend and successfully complete the agency sponsored Law Enforcement Vehicle Operations (LEVO) Training if assignment includes driving agency vehicle. Use of agency vehicle would require appropriate driving history and passing agency biennial driver’s physical exam.
Must be able to obtain, CPR Certification, and Parking Enforcement Certification within one (1) year of employment and maintain mandatory re-certification requirements.
Must successfully complete the Field Service Officer Training Program and Traffic Enforcement Training program within one (1) year of employment.
Ability to responds to calls and processes crime scenes to include photographing crime scenes, collecting evidence, interviewing victims, and taking statements.
Ability to write reports using data gathered.
Ability to investigate assigned traffic accidents/incidents scenes as assigned.
Ability to review/approve/route electronic crime reports submitted to the Orange County Sheriff's Office via the Agency’s web based self-reporting program.
Ability to testify in Traffic, County, Civil and Juvenile Court and in depositions which include misdemeanor/felony cases, traffic infraction hearings, civil suits, and criminal traffic hearings.
Ability to submission criteria/report verification, report routing to the appropriate Investigative Unit, acting as a liaison with the public and complainants, maintaining email folders and creating various logs/ statistical reports.
Ability to serve as a training liaison for newly hired FSOs under the direction of the FSO Supervisor.
Must have proficient verbal communication skills and active listening skill in order to discuss sensitive topics/issues with a diverse population (i.e. age, gender, race, ethnicity, religion, culture, socio-economic level, etc.).
Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations.
May be required to interact with and represent the agency in front of the public on a regular basis.
Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.
Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume.
Ability to apply concepts of basic mathematical concepts (i.e. addition, subtraction, multiplication and geometry).
Ability to apply common sense understanding when carrying out instructions in written, oral, or diagram form.
Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
Must have basic computer skills to include word processing applications.
Ability to learn knowledge of Florida State Statutes and OCSO standard operating policies and procedures.
Must possess proficient interpersonal skills to promote a productive work environment while dealing with stressful conditions and a small group dynamic.
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to stand, walk, sit, talk, hear, and use hands to handle or feel. The employee is occasionally required to reach with hands and arms and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision and distance vision.
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently exposed to outdoor weather conditions and wet/humid non-weather conditions. The employee is occasionally exposed to fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, high and precarious places, and moving mechanical parts. The employee may also be exposed to infectious or contagious diseases, allergenic substances, insects, and/or animals. Depending on location, the employee may be required to utilize and/or maintain assigned equipment such as uniforms, marked vehicles, and radios. Employee may be required to work irregular hours to include some weekends/holidays. Minimal exposure to bodily fluids and/or blood may occur. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
