NBC Universal Engineer II, Entertainment – Capital Projects (Project Hire) in Orlando, Florida

JOB SUMMARY:

Oversees and advises the technical and safety aspects of moderately complex Entertainment Projects, ensuring appropriate completion of all required documentation to provide compliance with all Universal Creative Engineering & Safety specifications and with ASTM F24 Committee guidelines, to include compliance with applicable codes, regulations and standards including: AISC, ASME, ASTM, ANSI, AWS, JIC, NEC, and OSHA, among others, through careful coordination with Entertainment Production, Universal Creative, Universal Orlando Engineering, vendors, and all other necessary stakeholders.

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Oversees engineering and safety considerations for assigned projects from design through commissioning, coordinating with internal and external stakeholders to include Entertainment Production, Entertainment Art & Design, Entertainment Technical, EHS, Universal Creative, Technical Services Engineering, vendors, and others. Ensures compliance with all applicable specifications.

  • Establishes a plan for completing all safety hazard analysis and acceptance testing documentation. Ensures appropriate completion by vendors. Authors documentation when necessary.

  • Provides appropriate input for project schedule and budget and reviews scopes of work for technical content, authoring scopes of work or contractual documentation when necessary

  • Manages installation, acceptance test, and commissioning of all assigned projects to ensure successful completion on schedule and in compliance with applicable specifications. Performs technical evaluation of vendor work products and services

  • Interfaces with Universal Creative Technical Program Managers and above, Entertainment managers and above, and vendors to resolve problems and design issues.

  • Serves as subject matter expert for engineering and technical specifications for Entertainment, representing Entertainment interests for specification input and modification.

  • Understands and actively participates in Environmental, Health & Safety responsibilities by following established UO policy, procedures, training and team member involvement activities.

  • Performs other duties as assigned.

    EDUCATION:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering is required. Electrical Engineering, Electronic Engineering Technology, or Computer Engineering preferred.

    EXPERIENCE:

    Required:

  • 5+ years demonstrated project engineering experience of control and software systems in an engineering environment for dynamic motion and show systems in a theme park industry to include design and specification or technical fault analysis/isolation and solution identification; followed by compliant implementation, testing, and commissioning;

  • 5+ years demonstrated stakeholder management to accomplish project goals.

    Preferred:

  • Understanding of and implementation experience with Universal Creative Engineering & Safety processes and specifications.

  • Understanding of and implementation experience with Universal Orlando Specifications & regulations to include, but not limited to, Environmental Health and Safety, Operational Performance Specification, and Parks Technology Specifications.

  • Engineering experience in control systems and installation utilizing PLC’s, ladder logic, variable frequency drives and servo controls in a theme park or equivalent environment. "Hands-on" experience with PLC automated and control systems required.

  • Experience in the design or maintenance of safety critical systems.

  • Experience with servo controls as applied to hydraulic, pneumatic, and electromotive motion control systems required.

  • Analytical skills to perform engineering calculations for design, analysis, test and implementation of electrical and motion control systems.

  • Experience of generation of control system specifications, acceptance test procedures.

  • Knowledgeable in UL 508A, NEC, ASTM, ISO12100, and F24 standards.

  • Experience utilizing the following products and networks.

  • PLC-5, SLC-500, ControlLogix, CompactLogix.

  • PanelBuilder 1400E, PanelBuilder32, RSView 32, RSLinx, RSLogix 5, RSLogix 500, RSLogix 5000 and RSNetWorx.

  • Allen-Bradley PLC hardware and software.

  • AC and DC motors and motor control systems.

  • Data Highway Plus, Remote I/O, ControlNet, DeviceNet, Ethernet, DMX and SMPTE.

  • Or equivalent combination of education and experience.
