Hanson is seeking candidates for our Commissioning and Energy Engineering 2022 Internship programs. We have potential opportunities in the following locations: Orlando, FL or Raleigh, NC.

Our Commissioning and Energy discipline is made up of Commissioning Specialists, Controls Specialists, and Energy Engineers whose focus is providing third-party commissioning services including on-site functional testing of either existing or new HVAC, plumbing, and electrical systems; providing energy audits per ASHRAE standards; and providing monitoring-based commissioning and measurement and verification (M&V) services to our clients across the U.S.

General Assignments: Interns will perform routine commissioning and energy tasks using standard procedures under supervision of Registered Professional Engineers and may assist Hanson engineers, designers, and technicians in disciplines related to their field of study.

Interns will typically support one or more experienced professional staff in performance of assignments, spend time shadowing actual operations, and have unique assignments that support larger projects as well as experience the day-to-day workings of commissioning and energy . Interns may perform and/or participate in additional activities/events which help them build a strong network within the Hanson community and with fellow interns. Internships may require travel to suppliers, customers, or other Hanson locations.

Key Responsibilities: Commissioning and Energy interns will be expected to perform the following key responsibilities with assistance from a Hanson Professional Engineer:

  • Assist with the new and existing building commissioning projects

  • Assist with reviews of design documents and contractor submittals

  • Helping monitor construction and witnessing system installation

  • Assist with the development of the commissioning documents, such as component verification checklists, functional performance tests, commissioning document manager, and more.

  • Assist with functional testing and ensuring all forms have been completed and signed off

  • Assist with developing final reports

  • Performing related duties such as writing memoranda, letters, or general reports; writing legal descriptions; collecting and correlating engineering data; maintaining records; attending meetings; and operating technical equipment

Qualifications:

Intern must be actively enrolled in a Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Architectural Engineering, Construction Management, or relevant field of study. The ideal candidate will have successfully completed their sophomore year and be actively enrolled in an accredited minimum 2-year college or university.

Key requirements are listed but not limited to the following:

  • Strong written and oral communication skills

  • Strong analytical skills

  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office

  • Valid driver’s license
