First Student is currently hiring for an Operations Supervisor. In this role you will focus on supervising day to day operations of our buses. As well as schedule the maintenance and fueling of the buses!

  • ​Counsels coaches and follows progressive discipline processes for drivers. Tracks trip performance measures, routes, on time performance, incidents, etc.

  • Ensures that drivers are performing assigned duties correctly and safely and that they meet all job related specifications.

  • Prepares operational reports. Maintains accurate daily records of operations.

  • Will be required to fill in for Operators or dispatches as needed to maintain service and is responsible for ensuring on-time departures

  • Responds to customer comments/concerns/complaints.

  • accident/incident investigation – reporting, tracking, and documenting daily events.

  • Attend vehicle breakdowns, assist with spill cleanup and discuss operator concerns regarding the fleet

  • Coordinate the changing off of vehicles due to malfunctions and work with dispatchers to manage service. They will incorporate into route plan factors such as peak travel periods, holidays, special events, and construction with emphasis on time and cost efficiency.

  • Required to liaise regularly with designated staff, dispatchers, County Staff, drivers and customers to monitor and maintain service schedules.

  • Apply day to day operations systems that comply with Federal, Provincial, regional and local municipal legislation standards including the Ontario Highway Traffic Act, Passenger Vehicle and Accessibility or Ontarians with disabilities Act (AODA), the county’s transit and local by-laws and the County’s fare Policy and (where applicable) the Collective agreement and or Employments Standards Act, and Labour Relations Act.

  • Be aware of and follow due diligence as prescribed in the Ontario Occupational health and Safety Act – counsel others in the safe performance of their roles.

  • Maintains a safe work area and a focus on safety to reduce the opportunity for injury to self or other employees

  • Functions in a leadership role to accomplish goals and objectives

  • Understands, implements and leads by example and monitors Company Policies and Procedures, ensures the Operation is in compliance with both client and Company Policies and procedures

  • Ensures all vehicles are kept reasonably clean, inside and out by regular inspections

  • Maintains clear and accurate records of individual job performance issues, assists in managing the performance of Operators

  • Ensures all Operators are fit for duty, meet uniform and equipment standards and are in possession of proper licensing and certifications

  • Respects and maintains the confidentiality of all employee records, business records, client and customer information, data and other information not otherwise available to the public

  • Demonstrates regular and consistent attendance and punctuality in compliance with Company Attendance Policy

  • Works flexible hours and on weekends as required

  • Other responsibilities may include; road checks, troubleshooting, detour routing, and all other duties as assigned.

Minimum Requirements:

  • 3-5 years experience in transportation industry.

  • Good supervisory skills.

  • Excellent communication and organization skills.

  • Good Interpersonal skills

  • Computer skills
