Position Announcement
Utah Valley University is seeking a dedicated part-time Specialist to support its Respiratory Therapy Program. This role offers the opportunity to significantly impact the academic and clinical success of Respiratory Therapy students by providing tailored instruction, remediation, and hands-on learning experiences. Collaborating closely with the Program Director and faculty, the Specialist will coordinate extra-curricular activities such as academic workshops, lab sessions, and mock board exams to enhance students' theoretical and practical skills. By presenting real-life patient cases and facilitating individualized clinical demonstrations, the Specialist will help students apply classroom knowledge to real-world scenarios, preparing them for their future roles in patient care. The position emphasizes the importance of ethical principles, patient confidentiality, and professional conduct, making it an excellent opportunity for individuals passionate about mentoring and guiding future respiratory therapists.
Summary of Responsibilities
• Tutors remedial students didactically (individually or in a group setting) the complex respiratory system concepts that involve anatomy, physiology, pathophysiology, gas laws, and specialized equipment function.
• Tutors remedial students within the clinical/laboratory setting (individually or in a group setting) by demonstration and hands-on learning of various respiratory therapy techniques, including but not limited to administering oxygen therapy, operating ventilators, performing chest physiotherapy, conducting pulmonary function tests, and participating in simulation exercises that allow students to practice clinical skills within a controlled environment.
• Participates in gathering data for program assessment purposes and assists faculty in planning and coordinating academic workshops and activities that foster engaged learning opportunities and inter-departmental collaboration. Promotes professional and ethical behavior.
• Perform other job-related duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in Respiratory Therapy from a CoARC-accredited institution/Respiratory Care Program.
Preferred Qualifications
Demonstrated experience with tutoring/teaching in an academic setting or professional organization.
Licenses or Certifications
Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) credential Utah State License as a Respiratory Therapy Practitioner (RCP)
Knowledge, Skill, and Abilities
Knowledge:
• Knowledge of basic and advanced Respiratory Therapy procedures, processes, concepts, and lab operations.
• Knowledge of and proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, including Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint.
• Knowledge of student management, motivation, and evaluation.
• Knowledge of current trends in Respiratory Therapy.
• Knowledge of instructional strategies, assessment, and evaluation.
Skills:
• Skills in the use of technology that supports student learning, especially r elated to online platforms such as Canvas.
• Strong interpersonal, communication, problem-solving, decision-making, and critical thinking skills.
• Skills in RT simulation techniques and lab operations.
Abilities:
• Ability to create hands-on learning opportunities.
• Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing.
• Ability to plan and anticipate potential changes and act accordingly.
• Ability to resolve conflict within an academic setting.
• Abili y to manage, motivate, assess, and engage students.
