Eaton’s IS AER MSD division is currently seeking a Mechanical Design Engineer (Production Support).

The expected annual salary range for this role is $65250.0 - $95700.0 a year.

This position is for a Mechanical Engineer role sustaining production products in Eaton’s Mission Systems Division. The engineer performs assigned tasks including troubleshooting, design modifications, analysis, risk management, planning, testing and coordination with other production team members related to all work within the scope of sustaining assigned products. The engineer will act as a technical leader for small projects. They will report technical information to and secure feedback from an engineering manager or team lead. Advancement opportunity includes a senior mechanical engineering role, whose tasks include execution of research, design, development, testing and certification activities. A successful candidate will need knowledge of fundamental mechanical and physics principals.

What you’ll do:

Mechanical Engineers work in a dynamic environment and are responsible for successful product support execution of research, design, development, testing and certification activities. Including:

• Investigate / troubleshoot problems and requirements of projects & develop plans for solutions.

• Apply fundamental mechanical and physics principals to support production product.

• Create design definition documents (3D models, 2D drawings) and design supporting documentation (engineering reports, test procedures, etc.).

• Manage technical risk through exhaustive identification, prioritization of risk mitigation activities, and data driven design changes where appropriate.

• Follow engineering standards and design guides and provide ideas for improving site best practices.

• Work to Design for Six Sigma and Advanced Product Quality Planning principles including Design FMEA, Process FMEA, measurement systems analysis, and process capability studies.

• Work with 8D, cause and effect diagrams for use in problem solving.

• Work as part of a team made up of other engineering or cross functional disciplines to disposition non-conforming material (NCR) and generate engineering change requests related to production product

Qualifications:

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering or Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Industrial or Engineering technology from an accredited institution.

  • Must be authorized to work in the United States without corporate sponsorship now or in the future.

  • This position requires use of information or access to hardware which is subject to the International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR). All applicants must be U.S. persons within the meaning of ITAR. ITAR defines a U.S. person as a U.S. Citizen, U.S. Permanent Resident (i.e. ‘Green Card Holder’), Political Asylee, or Refugee.

  • Relocation is not provided. All candidates must reside within 50 miles of the Orchard Park, NY facility.

Preferred Qualifications:

• 1-3 years’ experience of system, product design, development, and/or production design problem resolution experience, inclusive of internship experiences.

• Familiarity with software including SolidWorks, ANSYS, MATLAB and/or Simulink.

• Familiarity with Aerospace new product introduction methods, regulatory standards.

• Familiarity with hydraulic or pneumatic valve design.

• Familiarity with design and analysis of high-pressure systems

Skills:

• Ability to work autonomously on assigned tasks with oversite from a technical leader or engineering manager.

• Ability to learn and apply new concepts, software, and engineering principles.

• Strong written and verbal communication and collaboration with internal and external customers.

• Have sound problem resolution, judgment, and decision-making skills.

• Proficiency with 3D CAD package.

• Understanding of drawing standards.
