WSP is currently initiating a search for a full time Mid to Senior Civil/Maritime Engineer for our West Coast offices, which include Anchorage, AK; Orange, CA; San Diego, CA; Portland, OR; Federal Way, WA; and Seattle, WA.
Your Impact
Perform professional civil engineering work and conduct research and inspections of proposed and existing site conditions, resources, building, infrastructure, and transportation channels to determine conformance with applicable rules, standards, and construction or operating permits.
Develop plans, specifications, schedules, and cost estimates for port projects in accordance with client requirements.
Supervise and assist in preparation of drawings in AUTOCAD and/or REVIT.
Independently prepare design calculations, technical reports, and study reports
Work as an individual or as part of a cross-functional team of engineers, planners, and scientific professionals to execute project work on multiple concurrent projects, assist with laying out installations, establishing reference points/elevations/grades to guide construction, calculating costs and quantities of material/equipment/labor, and ensuring project work conforms with specifications, permit applications, compliance documentation, and regulatory and technical analysis memos.
Interact with regulatory agencies, subcontractors, and clients in a confident and professional manner.
Mentor developing ports and marine engineers.
Work collaboratively with other engineers and planners on projects with infrastructure authorities on Federal, State, regional, and locally funded improvement and development projects.
Exercise responsible and ethical decision-making regarding company funds, resources and conduct, and adhere to WSP’s Code of Conduct and related policies and procedures.
Perform additional responsibilities as required by business needs.
Who You Are
Required Qualifications
Bachelors in Civil/Structural Engineering
5+ years of professional experience
Minimum 3-5 years of experience in analysis, design, of upland site developments with interdisciplinary coordination.
Working knowledge of relevant civil construction laws, codes, regulations, compliance practices, and record-keeping requirements.
Ability to plan and conduct inspections and investigations on various aspects of the construction and design of facilities or structures, applying applicable regulations and policies.
Proficient knowledge of civil engineering principles, practices, process, design/build, and the application to permitting and project work-related issues.
Effective interpersonal and communication skills when interacting with others, expressing ideas effectively and professionally to an engineering and non-engineering audience.
Highly capable self-leadership with attention to detail, multi-tasking, and prioritization of responsibilities in a dynamic work environment.
Ability to work independently and provide guidance and leadership to junior team or project members, with strict adherence to QA/QC.
Proficiency with technical writing, office automation, discipline-specific design software (e.g., MicroStation, AutoCAD, Civil 3D, ArcGIS, InRoads, Geopak, GeoSlope, ANSYS, STADD, HEC-RAS, HEC-HMS), technology, math principles, predictive models, spreadsheets, and tools.
Must successfully complete and pass WSP's Motor Vehicle screening.
Occasional travel may be required depending on project-specific requirements.
Proven track record of upholding workplace safety and ability to abide by WSP's health, safety and drug/alcohol and harassment policies.
Preferred Qualifications
PE license
Experience with Federal design standards (UFCs and UFGS) for US Navy/Coast Guard.
Hands-on analyses and design experience (e.g. heavy duty pavement).
Familiar with relevant marine, port, and coastal construction codes, regulations, and compliance practices.
Experience with waterfront design and permitting challenges.
Experience managing small to mid-size projects.
Additional positions available for individuals holding a commercial dive license (ADCI or DCBC) in addition to the qualifications above.
Compensation and Benefits:
WSP provides a comprehensive suite of benefits including medical, dental, vision, disability, life, and retirement savings focused on a providing health and financial stability throughout the employee’s career. Expected Salary: $78,300-$157,000
