POSITION SUMMARY
The pharmacy department plays an integral role in the healthcare team at East Alabama Medical Center (EAMC). The emergency medicine pharmacist works cooperatively with the emergency department team including nursing, physicians, allied health and EMS staff to deliver safe, guideline directed and cost-effective care. The emergency medicine pharmacist ensures the safe and effective use of medication by providing medication order verification while assessing for optimal drug product selection, dosage regimen design, effective administration and drug therapy monitoring services. The pharmacist also facilitates the medication reconciliation process and works closely within a multidisciplinary team to ensure the best care is provided. The pharmacist accepts responsibility, authority, and accountability for management and provision of care in accordance with the current EAMC policies and procedures. The pharmacist is responsible for leading efforts in the prevention and reporting of medication errors and adverse drug reactions according to policy and works to continuously improve process and practice in the institution to enhance safety of medication therapy. Staff pharmacists must maintain competence in all aspects of current clean room operations, aseptic techniques, and pharmacy standards including the safe handling of hazardous medications (USP <795>, <797>, <800>). This pharmacist is expected to be certified in ACLS and PALS and respond to house wide emergencies when needed.
POSITION QUALIFICATIONS
Minimum Education
Graduate of accredited school of pharmacy
Minimum Experience
One year of inpatient hospital experience
Required Registration/License/Certification
Active and clear Registered Pharmacist license and Controlled Substance Permit from the Alabama State Board of Pharmacy
ACLS & PALS within 6 months of hire.
Preferred Education
PharmD and PGY-1/ PGY-2 Residency Completion
Preferred Experience
3-5 years of inpatient hospital pharmacy practice
Preferred Registration/License/Certification
Board of Pharmacy Specialties Certification or other applicable certification
