Summary:

Supervises and coordinates activities of workers engaged in welding and grinding of weld parts, as well as, workers engaged in mixing paint, preparing surfaces of objects to be painted, and baking or drying objects by performing the following duties.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

General:

  • Studies production schedules and estimates worker hour requirements for completion of job assignments.
  • Interprets specifications, blueprints, and job orders to workers, and assigns duties.
  • Recommends measures to improve production methods, equipment performance, and quality of product.
  • Analyzes and resolves work problems or assists workers in solving work problems.
  • Maintains time and production records.
  • Estimates, requisitions, and inspects materials.
  • Trains workers in operation of equipment.
  • Develops, recommends, and implements measures to improve production methods, equipment performance, and quality of product.
  • Suggests changes in working conditions and use of equipment to increase efficiency of shop, department, or work crew.
  • Confers with other supervisors to coordinate activities of individual departments.
  • Initiates or suggests plans to motivate workers to achieve work goals.
  • Interprets company policies to workers and enforces safety regulations.

Paint:

  • Inspects painted surfaces for paint coverage, flow of paint, and color quality.
  • Computes amounts of stock and supplies required for operations, based on production schedules, and requisitions materials from storage area.

Weld:

  • Requisitions supplies, such as weld rods, gas, flux, and fixtures.
  • Inspects work or confers with Weld Inspector to maintain specified standards and quality
  • May set up machines or make trial welds to make test runs and experimental products.
  • Plans flow of materials through department and develops physical layout of weldments according to work orders.
  • Inspects and measures parts and products to verify conformance to specifications.
  • Directs workers in adjusting machines and equipment to repair products which fail to meet standards.
  • Analyzes work orders and blueprints to determine need for supplies and sequence of operations required.

Supervisory Responsibilities:

Directly supervises 35 to 50 employees in the Weld and Mainline Paint Department. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing wor ; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.

Other duties may be assigned.

Education and Experience:

Associate's degree or equivalent from two-year college or technical school; or six months to one year related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
