Job Summary and Essential Job Duties:

The apprenticeship program will consist of a 3-year OJT rotation (6000 hours required) with apprentices training and working in nearly every area of the company. There are defined competencies expected for each assigned area of the rotation. (See the tentative outline included at the end of this document.) There is also a required educational component to the program that is expected to include 6 or more courses at MCC. It involves working a 40-hour week and taking at least 1 course per semester (12hrs/week). Individuals can choose to work towards an AAS degree, but this is not required for the program. All of the MCC coursework will be applicable to the Optical Systems Technology A.A.S. degree and will be funded by Optimax.

There is a defined process for recruiting candidates to the program that includes a demonstration of strong attention to detail, mathematical aptitude and English proficiency. Candidates will be ranked based on this process; this is a New York State Apprenticeship requirement. We hope have at least one active apprentice each year.

At this time, there is open enrollment for anyone interested in this program. The program has a specified wage progression that includes compensation increases every 6-months, as required by NYS. The wage structure, as it exists, is designed for fairly new employees. Candidates are asked to apply through the Apprenticeship Opening in the Optimax Career Center https://www.optimaxsi.com/optimax-careers/ .

The rotation outline included here is intended only as an overview. The order and duration of each phase will probably change.
