TheTechnical Sales Assistantis a development role to support the Trus Joist brand of engineered wood, the unrivaled leader in Engineered Wood products.

This position is a dynamic pathway for ambitious individuals aiming to advance to the coveted role of a Trus Joist Territory Manager, a position that involves engaging with a diverse spectrum of the construction channel—from supporting framers in the field to partnering with lumber dealer sales teams and collaborating with architects and engineers (specifiers). It presents a unique opportunity for candidates to cultivate their skills under the guidance of some of the construction sector's most recognized and respected sales leaders. Reporting directly to the Region Manager, EWP Canada East and based in Ontario, the Technical Sales Assistant will contribute to and shape the future of building innovations with Trus Joist. The ideal candidate should be based in Southern Ontario to support the customer base.

Key Functions:

  • Works under the direction and in support of one or more Territory Managers within the region and assists in the creation of primary demand for WY structural frame products throughout the industry channel (specification, distribution, retail dealers, builders, code officials, etc.)
  • Develops good understanding of product application and value design expertise to all functions within the industry channel using Javelin®, Estima® or Forte® software programs.
  • Assists the regional Territory Managers in providing superior service for all Trus Joist and Weyerhaeuser branded products. Activities such as job site visits, trade shows, specifier training, field product reviews and in-office support.
  • Provides design and material take offs when needed using a working level knowledge of blueprint reading, construction practices and TJ software and design and estimating practices.
  • Assists in conducting product knowledge training for customers within the region, supported by existing Territory Manager and after baseline training received

  • High school diploma or GED required

  • A Bachelor’s Degree or Diploma ideally in a related field such as wood products, engineering, construction management preferred
  • Experience in sales, CAD design, or residential construction preferred
  • Knowledgeable of Engineered Lumber Products an asset
  • Ability to develop strong technical, construction, design and consultative selling skills
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Demonstrated interest and ability to learn technical processes / sales within the construction industry
  • Strong organizational skills, self starter
  • Demonstrated customer service skills, ideally acquired in a fast paced environment
  • Strong computer aptitude, ability to learn new programs quickly, must have intermediate MS Office (Email, Word, Excel, PowerPoint), CAD experience an asset
  • Demonstrated success working in a team environment
  • Travel: approximately 10-25%, some overnight

Compensation: This role is eligible for our annual merit-increase program, and we are targeting a salary range of $60,800 - $84,500based on your level of skills, qualifications and experience. You will also be eligible for our Annual Incentive Program, which offers a cash bonus targeting 5% of base pay. Potential plan funding may range from zero to two times that target.

Retirement: Nonunion Canadian employees are automatically enrolled in our Defined Contribution Pension Plan, which includes a paid company match up to 6%, in addition to a company contribution equaling up to 7.25% of your base salary. Employees are also eligible to enroll in the Retirement Savings Plan (Group RRSP).
