Job Title: Cost AccountantJob Description
We are looking for a dedicated and detail-oriented Cost Accountant to join our team. This role involves performing periodic physical to perpetual inventory reconciliations, preparing analysis of cost variances, and collaborating with various departments to improve profitability. The ideal candidate will have significant experience in cost accounting within a manufacturing environment and be proficient in advanced Excel and ERP systems.
Responsibilities
Perform periodic physical to perpetual inventory reconciliations and research variances and discrepancies as needed.
Work closely with Inventory Control to resolve costing and inventory variances.
Collaborate with the Operations team to help identify improvements that will increase profitability.
Prepare and provide analysis of cost variance for material; estimate vs. actual.
Prepare analysis of fixed spending by department, comparing actual costs vs. budget, and identify and explain variances; advise team on improving efficiency.
Implement and apply cost accounting policies and procedures.
Analyze and explain manufacturing cost activity and gross margin by division.
Develop new labor and overhead rates annually and update AX 2012 ERP system; reconcile monthly between ERP & actual to absorption balance.
Assist in preparation of monthly financial forecasts and annual operating budget utilizing AX 2012 historical data.
Prepare monthly inventory and COGS schedules and post necessary journals.
Prepare profitability reports monthly by product and customer for reporting to management.
Prepare reports on inventory and costs for the Management Review Meetings (MRM).
Ensure compliance with accounting policies and procedures.
Assist in the preparation of all inventory and cost information necessary for audits, both internal and external.
Serve as a point of escalation for all inventory and cost issues before escalating further.
Assist and prepare any special financial projects as requested.
Review accounts payable postings for inventory and manufacturing expenses for correctness and prepare any reclassifications as necessary.
Perform other related duties as assigned by management.
Provide backup to other accounting functions.
Essential Skills
Strong understanding of income statements, debits, credits, financial statement analysis, and reporting.
Experience in cost of goods analysis, cost accounting, and inventory management.
Proficient in Excel, including advanced functions.
Experience with bill of materials, labor costing, and general ledger reconciliation.
Strong skills in variance analysis, forecasting, and balance sheet management.
Experience with fixed asset and inventory accounting.
Degree in accounting or finance.
7+ years of experience in a costing role.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
Experience with a similar size ERP system.
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities.
Work Environment
You will report to the controller and be part of a team of 6. You will be the only cost accountant for 3 divisions. The role involves heavy Excel work and uses the AX 2012 ERP system.
Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $110000.00 - $110000.00/yr.
