Opportunities for Otsego, Inc. Transitional Housing Navigator in Oneonta, New York

Transitional Housing Navigator For nearly 30 years, the Violence Intervention Program (https://ofoinc.org/find-program/violence-intervention-program) has provided support to victims of domestic violence, sexual assault, and other crimes throughout Otsego County. Become part of our team to help break the cycle of violence and assist survivors in rebuilding their lives. This position is a combined role - Transitional Housing Navigator 3 days/week, Residential Shelter Associate - 2 days/week (weekends). As Transitional Housing Navigator you will:

  • Work closely with shelter staff and victim advocates to identify clients feeling abuse

  • Determine eligibility for transitional housing services and coordinate access to supportive services

  • Facilitate communication with landlords to secure suitable housing, execute housing agreements, and payment arrangements on behalf of clients

  • Maintain contact with clients to ensure safety, housing stability and address other household needs

  • Provide coverage for the 24-hour crisis hotline as needed

Though our emergency shelter, you will offer compassion and hope to adult and child victims of domestic violence as they transition to a life free from abuse. As Residential Shelter Associate you will:

  • Maintain a safe, secure, comfortable environment by overseeing shelter activities and organizing self-care and group events

  • Answer the domestic violence/sexual assault hotline

  • Provide crisis counseling, safety planning, and information/referrals to residents and callers on the hotline

  • Coordinate intake into the shelter

  • Accompany victims to hospitals and police stations

  • Assist with case management

This position works 40 hours/week total - 3 days/week flexible weekdays, and 2 days/week weekends.

Qualifications: Associate degree in human services, criminal justice, sociology or related field OR High School Diploma/equivalent with one year of relevant experience; preferred experience conducting intakes/screenings, housing assistance, human services, victim services; proficient in basic computer skills and software; valid New York State driver’s license and reliable transportation. New York State Rape Crisis Certification required within first six months of employment. Pay Range Guide:

  • Standard Start Rate - education and experience meet job requirements

  • Advanced Start Rate - education and experience exceed job requirements (subject to approval)
