Mid Valley Hospital Omak Dietitian in Omak, Washington
The Dietitian is responsible to assist the Dietary Supervisor with general guidance of the facility's dietary services and monitor adherence of facility's rules and regulations for patients' meals. The ultimate goal being appropriate diet therapy and education for patients as well as nutritious meal planning and wholesome food preparation.
This position and associated responsibilities will include all tasks and duties necessary to comply with Washington State Law as shown below.
WAC 246-320-201 Food and nutrition services. The purpose of this section is to assure patient nutritional needs are met in a planned and organized manner. Hospitals must: (1) Designate an individual qualified by experience, education, or training to be responsible for managing the food and nutrition services; (2) Designate a registered dietitian responsible to develop and implement policies and procedures addressing nutritional care for patients; (3) Have a registered dietitian available to assess nutritional needs, based on patients' individual nutritional risk screen; (4) Develop and regularly update an interdisciplinary plan for nutritional therapy based on current standards for patients at nutritional risk. Monitor and document each patient's response to the nutritional therapy in the medical record; (5) Implement, document and monitor a system for providing nutritionally balanced meals that are planned in advance, and respect cultural diversity; and (6) Adopt and implement policies and procedures for food service according to chapter 246-215 WAC. NATURE AND SCOPE:
The Dietitian confers with the Dietary Supervisor to ensure that menus and policies conform to nutritional standards and government established regulations. The Dietitian reports directly to the Dietary Supervisor.

ENVIRONMENT:
Mid-Valley Hospital is a 25 bed Critical Access Hospital (CAH) located in Omak, Washington, in Okanogan County. This position requires walking and standing for several hours per day. Workers in the Food Service Department may be subject to cuts, burns, muscle sprains and falls. Hand trucks are available for moving heavy food supplies, pop tanks, etc. Most of the work in the department is interchangeable and personnel work according to an assigned schedule. Generally, physical demands are moderate and essentially all work is performed inside.

SPESIFICATIONS
Conducts nutrition assessments on patients within 72 hours of admission (except weekends) using appropriate nutrition care process guidelines.
Provides educational support and educational materials for patients with special diets within 72 hours of admission (except weekends).
Provides support for patients with food preferences to help with proper menu selection.
Appropriately teaches patients and their family nutrition and modified diet requirements; interviews and counsels patients with special dietetic problems prior to their discharge from the hospital or as referred from outpatient services.
Works with Dietary Manager to review and respond to patient feedback regarding Dietary Services.
Provides outpatient consultation, assessments, and long term care plans for patients.
Conduct classes and attends meetings 1 -- 2 times per year to educate RNs and MDs on subjects such as nutrition, diet therapy, infant nutrition and menu planning; offers dietetic training for nursing personnel, medical staff, employees and the general public in the principles of nutrition and diet therapy.
Performs weekly tray check to ensure quality and dietary restriction(s) compliance.
