Charles Schwab Director, Software Development & Engineering Senior (PL) in Omaha, Nebraska

This role will lead large-scale platform engineering initiatives for Schwab’s Stock Plan Services technology platforms (ex: Equity Awards Center) in addition to developing cross enterprise services and shared capabilities. The role focuses on building scalable, and resilient cloud native platform components that enables participants/employees of our Stock Plan clients to interact with the equity compensation (awards, restricted stock units, ESPP, etc) their employer has granted them.
The Director (people leader) role will collaborate with other product and technology teams, as well as lead an engineering org with a client-focused mindset, responsible for developing frameworks, platform components, and templates that are consistent with Schwab's architectural standards.
An ideal candidate must have a solid background in cloud-native distributed architecture leading a team of software development managers, architects, platform engineers and technical leads with a passion for solving business problems with technology. A key focus for this role will also be to enable the public cloud transformation of Schwab's retail web platforms.
An ideal candidate will enjoy being part of an impactful and growing engineering team, working in a fast-paced environment, and delivering on needs for some of Schwab’s largest corporate clients. Strong communication and influencing skills are a must and have extensive experience leading multiple front-line managers and software development organizations. This role requires a dynamic leader who has a creative mind set for problem solving with a strong client focused mindset, and ability to forge relationships with many internal and external partners.
What you have
Required Qualifications:
Bachelor of Science in Computer Science or related field
10+ years of software development management/leadership experience
10+ years of direct people leadership experience (team members report directly to you, you are responsible for performance appraisals, hiring etc.)
3+ years of leading managers and their teams (leader of leaders)
5+ years’ experience running medium to large/complex projects with multiple dependencies; Demonstrated ability to define, communicate strategy and vision and influence across the Enterprise is essential
Demonstrated ability to effectively inspire and influence teams and partners in delivering technology enabled business solutions that exceed business expectations
Ability to execute at scale in a dynamic environment, build strong relationships and promote collaboration, identify talent, recruit, hire, coach, mentor and build high performing technical teams; experience setting direction, tracking progress, and ensuring accountability
Technical professional experience building scalable enterprise applications with high availability and reliability. Strong technology affinity and experience, as well as attention to detail and the ability to design, execute against strategic goals
Ability to analyze, propose and implement timely, cost effective, quality solutions for all issues or problems within area of responsibility
Strong influencing, negotiation, and problem-solving skills with an ability to identify stakeholders, assess their needs and manage their expectations through effective communication
Ability to independently work as a contributing member in a fast-paced environment across multiple time zones and locations. Excellent verbal and written communication skills
Preferred Qualifications:
Proficient in distributed architecture patterns, SOLID principles, BDD and TDD development practices
Proven expertise in working across cross-functional and cross-platforms teams driving developer experience initiatives
Familiarity with Cloud, Cloud migration strategy, API’s and API modernization strategy and Databases
Financial Industry experience
