This position is exempt from Washington State Civil Service rules. Position Purpose This position is part of the Student Wellness Services team and reports to the Director of Student Wellness Services. This position is designed to implement the day-to-day efforts of the Washington State Opioid and Fentanyl Prevention and Education in Higher Education Bill and is responsible for education initiatives to reduce harmful use of alcohol, tobacco, and other drugs. This includes, but is not limited to, providing project leadership, collaborating with campus and community stakeholders, delivering primary prevention, outreach, and education efforts for a diverse student population, as well as writing program progress reports and reporting data. In addition, the incumbent coordinates efforts across campus that focus on education and prevention of substance misuse broadly among college students, including students who have violated campus drug/alcohol policies. Nature and Scope Essential Functions Partner with stakeholders to develop and implement work plans and objectives. Conduct needs assessments and surveys as needed to identify any substance abuse and misuse priorities and gaps in services that need to be addressed. Formulate action and communications plans to deliver key messages to students, staff, and faculty, including raising awareness about clinical support and prevention resources. Engage in campus outreach to deliver training, disseminate communication materials, increase mental health resource awareness, drive service referrals, and increase campus action on identified substances, stimulants, and opioid prevention activities, including purchasing and distributing test strips and naloxone. Participate in relevant campus work groups and contribute to resource assessment reports. Research, develop, and disseminate prevention and referral information to students, staff, and faculty. Provide substance abuse prevention education to students; may provide training to staff and faculty. Develop educational materials and communications to reach students, staff, and faculty using a variety of communication tools and social media platforms. Collaborate in the development of and adherence to campus policies and procedures. Maintain complete and accurate records as required by the Opioid and Fentanyl Prevention and Education in Higher Education Bill. Identify and balance the campus needs in terms of awareness, advocacy, and education regarding the scope of substance abuse and mental health related problems. Prepare and deliver programming for students to address gaps in knowledge and services.
