Hackensack Meridian Health Manager, Pharmacy (Old Bridge Medical Center) - Full Time in Old Bridge, New Jersey

The Pharmacy Manager manages the operation of all assigned units of the pharmacy department ensuring high quality, accurate and expedient service. Assists the director in various management assignments.

Responsibilities

A day in the life of a Manager, Pharmacy at Hackensack Meridian Health includes:

  1. Coordinates the work of assigned units within the pharmacy department and ensures adequate staffing of these units.

  2. Supervises pharmacists and technicians on a daily basis in the preparation and dispensing of medication.

  3. Ensures that pharmacists and other department staff carry out assigned duties. Ensures equitable scheduling of daily work assignments.

  4. Ensures that medications are obtained from appropriate sources if needed in emergency and special situations.

  5. Ensures preparation of special dosage forms as required.

  6. Ensures that a complete controlled drug inventory is verified on a daily/monthly basis.

  7. Ensures completion of medication charges on a daily basis.

  8. Supervises the overall operations of the pharmacy warehouse. Ensures that there are no critical items out of stock.

  9. Ensures maintenance of the unit dose program according to established policy and procedure.

  10. Recommends and implements hospital and departmental policies and procedures through the director.

  11. Acts for the director.

  12. Assists in the training and evaluation of subordinate staff.

  13. Supervises the returns and credits of all drug products.

  14. Supervises the destruction of controlled dangerous substances as required.

  15. Coordinates the adverse drug reporting system of the hospital.

  16. Supervises the storing, handling, dispensing, security accountability of pharmaceuticals.

  17. Coordinates continuing education credits for CE programs.

  18. Ensures that all daily QA reports are properly completed and maintained.

  19. Assists in the preparation and maintenance of emergency carts.

  20. carries out duties of staff pharmacist as required.

  21. Coordinates maintenance requirements of the department.

  22. Ensures that staff has time available to complete monthly nursing unit inspections.

  23. Ensures needle and syringe control, inventory and pick-up.

  24. Participates in hospital and departmental Quality Assurance programs.

  25. Completes performance evaluations for assigned personnel when applicable.

  26. Serves as a member of specified committees as delegated by the director.

  27. Presents in-service orientation program for new nursing personnel.

  28. Ensures departmental participation in community and hospital wide programs such as: health fair and career day.

  29. Performs special projects and duties as assigned by the director.

  30. Provides competent assessment, treatment and/or care to patients appropriate for the individualized and developmental needs for the ages of those patients served.

  31. Demonstrates competency in assessing, analyzing and utilizing data for the purpose of obtaining information necessary for effective decision making and performance improvement processes.

  32. Keeps abreast of changes in pharmacy trends and practices by attendance and/or participation in in-service programs and unit based conferences applying to areas of specialty as recorded in development and conference records.

  33. Other duties and/or projects as assigned.

  34. Adheres to HMH Organizational competencies and standards of behavior.

Qualifications

Education, Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required:

  1. Degree in pharmacy from an accredited college of pharmacy.

  2. A minimum of 5 years of experience as a pharmacist.

  3. Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

  4. Proficient computer skills that include but are not limited to Microsoft Office and/or Google Suite platforms.

Licenses and Certifications Required:

  1. Registered Pharmacist License.
