Job Summary:

In collaboration with Clinic Psychiatrist(s) works independently in a multi-disciplinary clinic to provide care to patients.

Job Responsibilities and Requirements:

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Perform a comprehensive psychiatric and mental health diagnostic evaluation for adult and/or child cases, which includes planning, evaluating an implementation evidence-based clinical practice guidelines to guide screening and diagnostic activities as available and appropriate.

  • Initiate and interpret diagnostic tests and procedures to determine appropriate diagnostic and therapeutic psychiatric intervention.

  • Make referrals for further diagnostic, psychological or medical testing as needed.

  • Provide individual, group, family and pharmacologic therapeutic interventions as necessary.

  • Provide crisis intervention and referral for psychiatric hospitalization.

  • Apply current research findings to guide nursing actions related to pharmacology, other biological therapies and integrative therapies.

  • Write prescriptions for medications, according to state regulation and practice protocol.

  • Provide education about the mechanism of action, intended effects, potential adverse effects of the proposed prescription, ways to cope with transitional side effects, and other treatment options, including the selection of a no-treatment option. This includes health teaching for medication management to support the patient in managing their medications and adhering to a prescribed regimen.

  • Knowledge on the use of the electronic medical record, documents for assessment, plan of care, goals, rationales for changes and collaborative discussions to improve the patient’s care.

  • Work in collaboration with multi-disciplinary team to discuss complex cases.

  • Works in a constant state of alertness and safe manner.

  • Performs other duties as assigned.

EDUCATION

  • Master's degree from nationally accredited Nurse Practitioner program

EXPERIENCE

  • One year behavioral health nursing experience

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Constant use of speech to share information through oral communication.

  • Constant standing and walking.

  • Frequent lifting/carrying and pushing/pulling objects weighing 0-25 lbs.

  • Frequent sitting, reaching and keyboard use/data entry.

  • Frequent use of vision and depth perception for distances near (20 inches or less) and far (20 feet or more) and to identify and distinguish colors.

  • Frequent use of smell to detect/recognize odors.

  • Frequent use of hearing to receive oral communication, distinguish body sounds and/or hear alarms, malfunctioning machinery, etc.

  • Occasional lifting/carrying and pushing/pulling objects weighing 25-50 lbs.

  • Occasional lifting/moving of patients.

  • Occasional bending, stooping, kneeling, squatting, twisting, gripping and repetitive foot/leg and hand/arm movements.

  • Occasional driving.

  • Rare crawling and running.
