Job Description

Job Purpose:

We are looking to hire a UNIX System Engineer II to support our UNIX systems. You will be required to work on-site or via remote connection to install new hardware/software, respond to user requests/incidents, troubleshoot server issues, monitor ongoing systems performance, and lead projects. To ensure success, you should have extensive UNIX knowledge, good problem-solving skills, and high-level interpersonal skills.

Essential Functions:

• Install, manage, and upgrade UNIX systems

• Manage UNIX user accounts and access

• Create and manage backup/recovery policies

• Patch management

• Establish and implement UNIX best practices

• Rack and stack physical hardware

• Respond to support requests and escalations from the Helpdesk via tickets

• Lead projects

Education:

Bachelor's degree in computer science or information technology preferred

Experience:

3 years of UNIX experience

Certifications, Accreditations, Licenses:

• Red Hat Certified System Administrator preferred

• Red Hat Certified Engineer preferred

Special Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

• Knowledge of Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL)

• Knowledge of HPUX

• Knowledge of Solaris OS and LDOM

• Knowledge of VMware

• Familiarity with firewalls, routers, switches, VLAN, VPN

• Familiarity with high availability, disaster recovery, and load balancer concepts

• Familiarity with cloud based infrastructure, automation, and middleware

• Ability to solve complex hardware and software issues

• Ability to travel and work after hours support/On-Call when necessary

• Excellent interpersonal skills

• Good written and oral communication skills required to communicate action items taken to resolve IT-related issues to end-users in terms easily understood

• Ability to lift 50 pounds

• HDL is required
