The Weber State University Department of Visual Art & Design invites applications for a visionary and collaborative Gallery & Exhibitions Director to lead and oversee the department s Mary Elizabeth Dee Shaw Gallery on WSU s main campus and the Dumke Arts Plaza in downtown Ogden.The Shaw Gallery includes a 3,200-square-foot contemporary space with an attached 225-square-foot project space. Exhibitions in the Shaw Gallery include 1 2 annual exhibitions of national/international stature,twice-yearly student shows in support of the department s BFA art and design capstone courses,and faculty and regional exhibitions. Exhibitions at the Dumke Arts Plaza should be of important national and international artists with broad community appeal. This position offers a collegial environment with faculty colleagues who are dedicated to their students learning and who maintain active art,design,and research practices. It also represents a valuable opportunity to establish an original curatorial record while advancing the department s educational and outreach missions in both academic and community-centered spaces.Duties will include but are not limited to the following:Oversee gallery operations,including exhibition logistics,budgeting,contracts,insurance,publicity,and receptionsDevelop and maintain a 2 3 year calendar of exhibitions and programming in coordination with the Department of Visual Art & Design and the Lindquist College of Arts & HumanitiesCurate,coordinate,and install 4 5 exhibitions per year in the Shaw Gallery (3 4 of which are student/faculty shows)Curate or coordinate 2 3 major public exhibitions annually at the Dumke Arts Plaza,including sculpture,video,and supporting programming in partnership with Ogden CityCollaborate with faculty to organize and oversee the department s visiting artist lecture programCollaborate with the department s chair and Outreach & Marketing Manager to support community and educational outreach initiativesWork with the university development office,the dean of the Lindquist College of Arts and Humanities,and the department chair on development activitiesTeach one course every 1 2 years in curatorial practices or another area of the candidate s expertiseOversee the training and supervision of student workers,interns,and docents. (These duties will be carried out with the assistance of the gallery s full-time Exhibitions Manager.)
