SERVICE EXPERTS LLC Animal Care / Community Outreach Coordinator in OGDEN, Utah

OVERVIEW:

Under the supervision of the Animal Shelter Director, performs a variety of routine and specialized clerical work pertaining to the functions at the Weber County Animal Shelter. YOUR RESPONSIBILITIES:

Acts as the Animal Care/Community Outreach Coordinator. Liaison to public, veterinarian staff, Best Friends support, Animal Control and the rescue community.

Animal Care Coordinator

Monitors health of all shelter animals on a daily basis. For minor injuries or illnesses, determines course of treatment that can be done in house. For more serious issues, seeks help from veterinarian or the rescue community.

Works with local veterinarians to schedule spays/neuters for cats and dogs.

Determines and/or performs euthanasia on animals that have no quality of life due to terminal illness or traumatic injury.

Evaluates animals that do not qualify for our adoption program due to medical or behavioral issues.

Posts information, photos, videos and documentation to rescues via social media. This is typically done during non-business hours due to rescues not being available throughout the day.

Mentors kennel technicians relating to behavior, health and well-being of animals.

Maintains and posts current medication schedules for shelter personnel.

Maintains and posts current dog walking schedule for volunteers.

Evaluates dogs and cats for adoption as needed, which includes vaccinations and general behavior assessments.

Writes profiles/biographies of animals that are available for adoption. Generates adoption flyers for adoption events.

Adoption coordinator for weekend adoption events.

Community Outreach Coordinator

Answer visitor questions about animals of interest.

Serves as counselor to community members that are need of rehoming their pets or general questions about animals.

Provides alternative resources to surrendering pets and offers food assistance through our food assistance program.

If shelter is last alternative, thoroughly talks with owners about their pet to help the animal find the best possible outcome when leaving the shelter.

Maintains database of resources for the public and shelter employees, such as veterinarian offices, animal rescues and dog trainers.

Provides education and information about animal behavior, diet and safety via social media and education boards throughout the shelter.

Miscellaneous

Reviews, enters and verifies information into electronic records management system, Chameleon, or other database(s).

Assists at the front desk, performing clerical duties when needed.

Move cats and dogs from one area to another in the shelter when needed.

Help clean animal kennels, laundry, dishes and feeding animals when needed.

Other duties as assigned. ABOUT YOU:

Education: High school graduation or equivalent.

Experience: Two years of increasingly responsible experience in clerical work and knowledge of general animal health and behavior. Work experience must be appropriate to the position.

Knowledge: Knowledge of animal first aid, ability to determine correct medication and dosage for animals with minor illnesses that can be treated at the shelter. U nderstanding of medical terminology highly desired. Knowledge of modern office practices and procedures; working knowledge of word processing, spreadsheet, and/or database software applications.

Skills: Skilled in typing and general office equipment.

Abilities: Must be able to work independently, have strong critical thinking skills and know when to exercise judgement. Ability to communicate with shelter director and staff. Ability to make mathematical computations rapidly and accurately; ability to follow written and verbal instructions; ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees, other departments, and general public. Capable of standing/sitting for extended periods while entering data into computers.

*YOUR SPECIAL QUALIFICATIONS *:

Must be able to test for and attain Bureau of Criminal Identification certification.

Must be willing to obtain animal euthanasia certification, provided by shelter.

Must be willing to obtain certification for UCJIS software, provided by the Weber County Sheriff's Department.
