Weber State University Academic Advisor/Internship Coordinator in OGDEN, Utah

The Department of Psychological Science is pleased to announce a position for an Academic Advisor and Internship Coordinator for students in our associate s (AS in Psychological Science),bachelor s (major and minor),and certificate (Behavioral Health Technician) programs.Major ResponsibilitiesHelping students plan their courses for a semester and over multiple semesters to graduation using the plans tool in CatTracks (financial aid requires plans to graduation).Collaborating with students to choose a required minor given their personal and professional goals and interests.Navigating University policies/offices/procedures and interacting with the Registrar's Office to support advising outcomes.Helping students refine their professional interests and directing them to the appropriate faculty for follow-up professional/career advising.Orienting students to individualized instruction experiences (i.e.,projects and research,directed readings,practicum,and co-op work experience) in the department.Maintaining and updating degree maps,as well as being familiar with learning outcomes and transfer articulation processes.Developing relationships with community partners to establish internship opportunities and job placement,and maintaining connections with program alumni to better track career trajectories.Developing and maintaining information about different types of graduate programs (particularly those in Utah) for students interested in post-baccalaureate education.Using software tools (e.g.,Starfish) to contact students at risk,analyze enrollment data to support academic policy and advising initiatives,and outreach to students who have stopped out or have yet to enroll in upcoming semesters.Other ResponsibilitiesReviewing and clearing in CatTracks all Psychological Science minors for graduation.Performing daily transfer articulation requests for psychology coursework.Adjudicating student appeals for transfer articulation decisions.Annually updating the program Advisement Handbook and the advising webpage for the new catalog year.Regularly updating a Canvas course on professional development that helps Psychological Science majors consider how to use their degree in Psychological Science. Course modules help students recognize the knowledge and skills gained in the major,the varied subfields of Psychological Science,career resources,and what s involved in applying to graduate programs (e.g.,the CV,personal statement,research experience,letters of recommendation,and interviewing).Aiding the Department Chair in curriculum issues and scheduling issues to accommodate student needs.Representing the Department of Psychological Science on the CSBS Advising Council and supporting the CSBS College Advisors in appropriate student outreach activities in the college.
