St. Croix Hospice has an exciting opportunity for a full-time Staff Accountant. This position is responsible for the timely and accurate financial reporting, including processing general ledger account and bank reconciliations, key contributor to the monthly close process, assisting with preparation of financial statements, and completing ad-hoc projects. Hybrid schedule is a possibility.

 

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS/RESPONSIBILITIES

 

  • Ensures financial record systems are maintained in accordance with generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP) and in compliance with State, Federal and CHAP regulations.

  • Reviews and/or prepares transactions for entry, posts entries upon approval, collects and evaluates data, conducts analysis, and prepares reports.

  • Reviews and verifies the accuracy of journal entries and accounting classifications assigned to various records. Reports inconsistencies to higher level associates.

  • Assists with the preparation of general ledger account reconciliations; and applicable federal, state and local taxes.

  • Assists in analyzing financial reports and records, making studies or recommendations relative to the recording of financial transactions.

  • Prepares schedules with supporting documentation to external auditors.

  • Responsible for comparing accounting system outputs with daily input verifying for accuracy and resolves discrepancies.

  • Assists in preparation of financial and operating reports including trial balances, adjustments and closing entries.

  • Interprets and communicates financial reports and results for managers.

  • Conducts or assists in the documentation / support of accounting projects of varying complexity.

  • Responsible for monthly credit card and GL account reconciliations • Assists with other duties and projects as assigned, including preparation of schedules for budgeting.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting required.

  • At least three (3) years progressive accounting experience in general ledger, month end closing processes, and financial statement preparation required

  • Healthcare / Hospice industry experience preferred.

  • Microsoft Office proficiency. Advanced Excel skills required.

  • Excellent organizational skills, with proven ability to multi-task and work with a sense of urgency under deadlines required. 

  • Strong work ethic, with demonstrated ability to work independently as well as professionally within a positive team environment.
