Jacobs Structural Engineer in Oak Ridge, Tennessee

We’re looking for a Structural Engineer to be responsible for design projects, developing design calculations using standard and advanced analysis (FEA) techniques, developing drawing, and developing specifications for structures made of steel, concrete, and masonry with emphasis on seismic design. Jacobs Nuclear Programs and Consulting is a Tier 1 service provider to the U.S. Department of Energy, we deliver safe and innovative solutions at complex nuclear cleanup and production sites. Our services include program management, decommissioning, environmental remediation, waste and nuclear material management, nuclear operations, consulting, and engineering and construction.

Here’s what you’ll need :

  • B.S. Engineering from an ABET accredited engineering school in Civil or Structural Engineering

  • EIT Registration (any state)

  • Knowledge of steel, concrete, and masonry design

  • Knowledge implementing local and national code such as IBC, AISC 360, ACI 318, ASCE 7

  • Ability to follow and implement established quality procedures and ensures that all work accomplished is procedurally compliant

  • Competent using Microsoft Office software

  • Knowledge of MathCAD and Finite Element Analysis software (e.g. STAAD.pro, SAP2000, ANSYS, or similar)

  • 1 year design experience post graduation or 2 design internships while enrolled in school

  • US citizenship required (to comply with government customer requirements and/or applicable government regulations)

  • Required to work full time in the Oak Ridge, TN office

Preferred qualifications:

  • Professional Engineering (PE) or SE License

  • Experience delivering a range of projects from conceptual design through detailed design. Includes developing design calculations, numerical modelling, drawing development, specification development, and construction support

  • Master’s Degree in Civil Engineering or equivalent

  • Knowledge of nuclear codes such as DOE 1020, AISC N690, and ACI 349

  • DOE Q clearance

  • DOE experience

  • NCEES Record

  • Experience working within a quality system based on ISO 9000 or NQA-1

  • Competent using discipline specific technical REVIT software

Essential Functions:

Intermittent sitting, walking, standing, bending, squatting, climbing, kneeling, twisting, and lifting. Lifting requirements limited to 20 lbs. in the form of supplies, drawings, etc. Longest distance carried of 50 feet. Hand manipulation is required for simple grasping, pushing and pulling, and fine manipulation. Right and/or left hands utilized. Occasional need to reach and/or work above the shoulder, for supplies, as well as below the shoulder for same. No foot controls necessary. Must be alert to equipment in the field, there will be occasional travel, will work near construction job site equipment when in the field, occasional need to work near hazardous equipment and machinery, occasional need to walk on uneven ground, exposure to dust, gas or fumes, exposure to noise, extremes in temperature or humidity, and potential work at heights.
