Hackensack Meridian School of Medicine seeks a Director, Academic Support for its Nutley, NJ location (in person).Duties: Provide strategic direction for the effective development, planning, implementation, and functioning of the program and service offerings for all academic support activities and initiatives that impact the success of the students at the School of Medicine within a competency-based curriculum. Train, develop, and supervise a professional team of Medical Education Learning Specialists to provide diagnostic interviews, strategy, structure, guidance and individual consultation in the areas of complex learning models including test taking strategies, time management, and preparation for licensure examinations. Collaborate with Course and Clerkship directors to design and develop academic support services across modalities that support the Master Adaptive Learner, including individual, small groups, classroom workshop format and 2-6-week intense elective models. Design and develop a Peer Tutoring Program for delivery of small group instruction and review to support academic performance during a course or clerkship. Participate in orientation and board review activities such as planning and teaching group sessions. Attend classes and other educational activities to gain thorough exposure to current educational content and methodology including reviewing course and clerkship materials, books, websites, and practice examinations for effective student assistance. Meet with individual students assigned an academic remediation plan, to assess learning strategies and level of academic functioning, and provide services/interventions, as appropriate. Develop academic support resources for use online, in print and in-person. Conduct ongoing assessment and reporting on programmatic and student learning outcomes and impact of academic support services. Maintain current knowledge of medical education and institutional curricular demands. Collaborate with Student Accessibility Services and facilitate the provision of reasonable accommodations to students with disabilities and maintain compliance with federal, state, and local regulations. Collaborate with multiple units in Student Affairs including Advising and Career Development, and Student Life. Mentor and provide professional development opportunities for Medical Education Learning Specialists and administrative staff. Create, strategize, and implement annual budgets.Requirements: Must possess a Master’s degree in educational psychology, cognitive psychology, graduate education, medical education, or a closely related field with specialization in learning and remediation, plus five (5) years of related experience working within a medical school. Specialized experience must include: using adult learning theories and models such as master adaptive learner, self-directed and self-regulated learning, as well as competency-based assessment data including test statistics and predictive analytics to develop academic support and remediation programs; designing academic support coursework assessing performance, and designing and implementing improvements; compiling and analyzing data to evaluate and document the efficacy and effectiveness of academic support services; using statistical modeling and analysis tools to design and develop student plans to ensure high-quality, innovative, and effective learning solutions; creating, implementing, and assessing faculty development activities in academic support; facilitating the medical education research process from inception through publication. 36 hrs/wk; on-site only/not eligible for remote work; recruiter1@hmhn.org, reference # DAS/PD.
