Experian Mainframe Lead Developer in Nottingham, United Kingdom

Development Lead Opportunity GVAP Delivery

Working within the Digital Consumer Information organisation in the UK&I, this role is responsible for the development and Delivery of Customer Management batch solutions direct to clients as part of the GVAP delivery team. GVAP is a critical part of our client’s customer management solutions and Experian takes it role in supplying this information seriously to ensure that correct Consumer decisions can be made by our clients every month. Given the importance of the work the team does we put client centricity at the heart of how the team operates and it is critical that we deliver quality output, on time, every time.

The Development Lead role within the GVAP team is expected to estimate, build, support and deliver customer management solutions directly to clients and ensure that all deliveries follow our process and deliver on time. This will be achieved using distributed platforms and the mainframe to create the desired output for clients and will involve working in a busy team that comprises of on and offshore colleagues. The off-mainframe work that forms part of the role does not require coding knowledge however basic knowledge in Java, .net etc will support understanding of the overall solution.

As a Development Lead you will be asked to identify service and process improvements that if implemented would result in the delivery of tangible benefits for the team, our Clients and Experian. You will also have accountability for the implementation of process and system improvements.

The role requires a close working relationship with offshore colleagues, the wider Experian network and Support teams to manage the resolution of issues that impact Delphi for Customer Management deliveries or supporting services.

The development leads are required to provide clear, concise and accurate communication with both internal and external customers on technical items, this may be required over the phone, in meetings or via email. This includes providing accurate and timely communications to customers in a non-technical style, where appropriate, including the communication of issues investigated by offshore colleagues.

Job Requirements:

  • Proven ability to work as part of a team to develop complex Enterprise grade software solution
  • Strong coding and data Analysis / Programming skills across the whole software development lifecycle (design/specification through to implementation)
  • Able to work to, and create products that adhere to, required technical standards and follow appropriate process to ensure accurate deliveries
  • Knowledge of working in a quality environment, where all outputs are peer reviewed and validated prior to distribution
  • Ability to plan and manage own work against required delivery milestones
  • Good problem solving and analytical skills
  • Strong communication skills as this is a client facing role
  • A demonstrated team player
  • Knowledge of the whole software development lifecycle with a good understanding of at least one development methodology (such as waterfall/Agile)
  • Experience of working with third parties

Technical Skills:

Required – Working knowledge and expertise in:

  • CICS / COBOL and associated test/development tools
  • JCL
  • DB2 for Z/OS,
  • SQL,
  • VSAM,

Experience of:

  • Unix Operating systems
  • Excel VBA and macros
  • SAS or WPS
  • Datastage or Pentaho
  • DB2 Stored procedures, DB2 database triggers
