Summary:

To provide clinical and clerical support for physicians in the sub-specialty clinic under the supervision of an RN. Duties include measuring vital signs, EKG and insurance pre-certifications. Also provides administrative support including scheduling, filing, maintenance of medical records, answering and returning phone calls, cleaning and any other duties required to efficiently run clinic.

Responsibilities:

  1. Clinical Duties-Fundamental Criteria A: Ability to accurately take, document and report vital signs Clinical Duties-Fundamental Criteria B: Documents clearly and legibly patients' chief complaint Clinical Duties-Fundamental Criteria C: Applies principles of aseptic techniques and infection control Clinical Duties-Fundamental Criteria D: Prepare and maintain examination and treatment areas.

  2. Office Procedures Criteria A: File all reports in the correct patient chart Office Procedures Criteria B: Pull and file Medical Records Office Procedures Criteria C: Answers telephone in a courteous and helpful manner Office Procedures Criteria D: Takes complete and accurate messages and relays messages in a timely manner

  3. Medical Office Maintenance Criteria A: Maintains supply inventory Medical Office Maintenance Criteria B: Performs quality monitoring e.g. supply/medication expiration dates, etc. Medical Office Maintenance Criteria C: Ensures environmental compliance e.g. supply closets, instrument cleaning.

  4. Scheduling Criteria A: Coordinates and monitors appointments Scheduling Criteria B: Maintains patient recall system and notifies patient at appropriate time for follow-up Scheduling Criteria C: Assist with referral process with other departments/physicians Scheduling Criteria D: Work with Norwalk Community Health Center to streamline referral process.

  5. Working Environment Criteria A: Positive attitude with patients, staff and medical professionals Working Environment Criteria B: Ability to prioritize and ensure smooth running of clinic Working Environment Criteria C: Communicates effectively with RN, physicians, patients, registration Working Environment Criteria D: Organization skills

  6. Performs other duties as assigned.

  7. Fulfills all compliance responsibilities related to the position.

Other information:

Required: Graduation from an accredited medical assistant training program and certification as medical assistant preferred. 3+ years' experience working in a medical office or hospital preferred. CPR Certification is Required.

Minimum Experience: three years

Desired: Excellent people skills to effectively deal with patients, hospital staff, customers and medical professionals. Ability to work collaboratively. Capacity to work in fast paced environment while remaining flexible. Excellent telephone skills and ability to schedule patients. Solid organizational skills. Bilingual preferred.
