Medtronic Senior Internal Communications Program Manager in Northridge, California

A Day in the Life

The internal communications program manager is a strategic thinker and motivated team collaborator with a proven ability to create and implement outcomes-based internal communications plans, strategies, and tactics. This individual must be change-agile and have deep domain expertise in internal communications and employee engagement, executive communications, and integrated communications. Must demonstrate strong executive presence. The ideal candidate is comfortable flexing between internal and external communications when needed. Must be social media savvy and possess an outstanding attention to detail with a strong bias for action and sense of urgency around execution.

  • Drive an internal communications strategy that strengthens trust and confidence in senior leadership, our strategy, and culture to ensure workforce engagement and productivity.

  • Develop internal communications strategies for senior functional leaders and drive seamless execution of tactics that ladder up to the strategy – a hands on and detailed communicator who has a knack for writing (quickly and succinctly).

  • Work with functional partners to develop, manage and implement change management communication strategies and programs.

  • Lead and execute strategic internal meetings including an annual senior leadership meeting, quarterly town hall meetings, quarterly global leadership team call, and other strategic employee events.

  • Support the development of internal communications materials including leader communications, organizational announcements, town hall slides, articles, scripts/talking points, etc.

  • Manage intranet and monthly newsletter for employees, driving a content strategy that ensures employees are kept informed and engaged on important developments.

  • Lead development of compelling communications tailored for various stakeholders, leveraging various multimedia formats and channels to break through with messages that stick.

  • Mine for compelling stories and content that can be pulsed out across channels with a focus on visual storytelling through multimedia components.

  • Partner with Employee Resource Groups to drive a positive workplace culture that’s inclusive, engaging, and fun.

  • Support crisis communications planning and development of issues management materials, as needed.

  • Partner with brand team to ensure all materials meet brand and style guidelines; ensure materials are approved through applicable approval processes.

  • Ensure effective collaboration across regions, functions and with corporate teams (know how to navigate a highly matrixed environment).

  • Monitor business, competitor, and industry news, synthesize for relevance to business and articulate key insights to team and business partners.

  • Translate business strategy, using storytelling to engage and inspire employees.

  • Utilize integrated communications strategies that motivate stakeholders to understand, act or advocate for the business.

  • Measure and report results, adjusting communications strategy and execution as appropriate to achieve business results.

  • Monitors key performance indicators and ongoing effectiveness of communications, ensuring communication plans are implemented on time, on budget, and within agreed upon specifications.

Must Have: Minimum Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree and 7+ years of progressive work experience in the communications field, including internal communications, executive communications, and PR communications experience, in either a corporate environment or agency, or 5+ years with an advanced degree

Nice to Have:

  • 3 years of experience leading projects/programs

  • Experience in diabetes or healthcare (i.e. regulated industry like medical device, pharma or biotech)

  • Experience in design and visual mediums (PowerPoint, infographics, still images, video) a plus

  • Excellent oral communications and presentation skills

  • Excellent research, writing and editing skills

  • Experience in change management communications for a medium-large organization

  • Exceptional verbal, writing, editing and organizational skills

  • Strong attention to detail

  • Experience or training in public relations, corporate communications, journalism, or related field

  • Executive presence and the ability to interact with leaders across the function and manage information with high levels of discretion

  • Proficient in Microsoft Office applications (i.e., Word, PowerPoint, Excel)

Salary ranges for U.S (excl. PR) locations (USD):$136,800.00 - $205,200.00

This position is eligible for a short-term incentive called the Medtronic Incentive Plan (MIP).

The base salary range is applicable across the United States, excluding Puerto Rico and specific locations in California. The offered rate complies with federal and local regulations and may vary based on factors such as experience, certification/education, market conditions, and location. Compensation and benefits information pertains solely to candidates hired within the United States (local market compensation and benefits will apply for others).

The following benefits and additional compensation are available to those regular employees who work 20+ hours per week: Health, Dental and vision insurance, Health Savings Account, Healthcare Flexible Spending Account, Life insurance, Long-term disability leave, Dependent daycare spending account, Tuition assistance/reimbursement, and Simple Steps (global well-being program).

The following benefits and additional compensation are available to all regular employees: Incentive plans, 401(k) plan plus employer contribution and match, Short-term disability, Paid time off, Paid holidays, Employee Stock Purchase Plan, Employee Assistance Program, Non-qualified Retirement Plan Supplement (subject to IRS earning minimums), and Capital Accumulation Plan (available to Vice Presidents and above, or subject to IRS earning minimums).

Regular employees are those who are not temporary, such as interns. Temporary employees are eligible for paid sick time, as required under applicable state law, and the Employee Stock Purchase Plan. Please note some of the above benefits may not apply to workers in Puerto Rico.
