UL, LLC Engineering Leader - Fire Suppression in Northbrook, Illinois

We are seeking an Engineering Leader to oversee our Sprinkler, Valve, and Warehouse Solutions segments. This hybrid role, based out of Northbrook, IL, will lead the engineering team for these product lines and report to the Business Manager for Fire Suppression, Sprinklers, Valves, and Warehouse Storage.

  • Capacity & Workflow Management:

Execute capacity and capability management under the Business Manager’s guidance. Assign resources effectively by engaging cross-functional leads and understanding project scopes and technical needs.

  • Team Leadership & Development:

Drive high performance by managing, developing, and coaching team members. Provide training, feedback, and career guidance to boost morale and ensure accountability for results.

  • Process Improvement & Compliance:

Implement process improvements to achieve financial targets and ensure adherence to policies, standards, and security practices.

  • Customer Engagement:

Build customer loyalty by anticipating needs, resolving issues, and offering proactive solutions. Support sales by maintaining customer relationships, gathering feedback, and providing technical guidance.

  • Collaboration & Culture:

Operate effectively within the UL matrix, fostering culture change, transformation, and engagement. Develop cross-functional networks to enhance efficiency and customer satisfaction.

  • Project Support:

Delegate tasks to Project Handlers, ensuring compliance and managing project scope changes. Handle projects and act as a lead reviewer when needed.

  • University degree (equivalent to a Bachelors degree) in Business Administration, Management, Engineering or related field plus generally five years directly related experience.

  • Lean Sigma Green Belt or Lean Leadership Training, Gage R& R experience or equivalent preferred.

  • Demonstrates knowledge of how decisions impact business results, working with a diverse team and planning and thinking strategically.

  • Demonstrates the ability to manage employee performance using performance expectations and goals and responding to employee relations issues.

  • Demonstrates the ability to lead in a Lean Sigma organization.

  • Demonstrates the ability to make the complex simple and present information in a concise, relevant and powerful manner.

  • Demonstrates the ability to analyze and interpret analyses, data, process documents and plans.

  • Demonstrates the ability to take calculated risks and plan for contingencies.

  • Demonstrates the ability to listen, learn and teach.

  • Demonstrates awareness of the challenges of working in diverse cultural environments.

  • Demonstrates proficiency in local language and basic English.

  • Demonstrates customer collaboration, project management and business acumen skills.

Total Rewards: The salary range for this position is based upon years of experience that is commensurate with the level of the position. All employees at UL Solutions are eligible for annual bonus compensation. UL offers a generous 401k matching structure of up to 5% of eligible pay. Additionally, we invest an additional 4% into your retirement saving fund after your first year of continuous employment. We provide Healthcare Reimbursement Accounts and Health Savings Accounts that UL contributes to twice per year! Depending on your role, you can work with your manager on flexible working arrangements. We also provide employees with paid time off including vacation, holiday, sick and volunteer time off.
