Saint-Gobain Sr. Development Engineer II in NORTHBORO, Massachusetts
The Senior Development Engineer at Saint-Gobain Research (SGR) North America will lead later stage R&D and industrialization activities for new products and solutions within the building industry. Collaborating with cross-functional team members from design, R&D, business, manufacturing, customers, sales suppliers, and external partners, the Senior Development Engineer will lead the development of manufacturing design and implementation of new, complex products and systems, improving product and process performance, reducing costs, and increasing sustainability.
Qualified candidate must be experienced in planning and execution of innovative product and process development by managing multiple projects simultaneously, leading prototype development through pilot production, and transferring technology to high volume manufacturing. Demonstrated ability to lead R&D projects and deliver on budget, timeline, design specification, and quality is required.
Essential duties include:
Develop engineering design, build and test prototypes, develop technical specifications, lead production trials, identify and manage all technical risks during the innovation stage gate processes.
Work with Saint-Gobain R&D, CertainTeed businesses, and internal & external collaborators to develop differentiated and sustainable industrial solutions for CertainTeed’s North American businesses.
Identify/Develop/Implement processing equipment and tooling technologies for industrializing new/improved product solutions. Transfer industrialized solutions to high-volume manufacturing.
Develop and execute plans to resolve complex product or system issues arising in field applications
Lead innovative design concepts and conduct feasibility studies for product performance improvement and cost reduction

BS Degree with a minimum of 12+ years’ experience, or MS with 7+ years of experience or PhD with 3+ years of experience in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Materials Science, Mechanical engineering, Textile Engineering or a related field.
Strong problem solving capabilities, to include identifying and managing technical and project risks
Maintain in-depth knowledge on production technologies and trends
PMP Certification - preferred
DFMEA Certification - preferred
Experience in Project leadership and management
Strong team collaboration
Skilled in technical innovation, leadership and mechanical/manufacturing engineering
Product development and material processing technology experience, prototyping through piloting
Research and Development experience
Demonstrated ability in researching and applying new technologies in work with materials, products, processes and in development of new knowledge
Strong cross-function and collaborative approach
Experience in technology transfer to industrialization
Analytical and Problem solving skills
Knowledgeable of Construction Materials, Building Science
Management of 3rd party contractors
Knowledge on sustainability, circularity
Experience in Stage Gate process for innovation
Experience using CAD/CAM software
Strong written and verbal communication skills
